Don't Let the Title Fool You

I look forward to reading this comic every month and it's only issue 3! I've seriously sat and contemplated what it is I like about this comic so much and it's kind of hard to articulate, but I'll give it a shot. The human condition runs a gamut of emotions from happiness, to sadness, to depression and all of this can happen in the duration of one day! Sometimes it's easy to get trapped in a feedback loop that sort of becomes an arrested development and before you know it you've  metastasized into one single emotion . Li'l Depressed Boy is a rag doll that hasn't quite figured all of this out, he's trying to find his place in the world and simultaneously discover how other people fit in as well. That's not always easy. He listens to the same sad songs, traverses from one familiar hangout to the next i.e. comic book shop, record store, home playing video games all the while desperately wanting change (without putting forth any of the effort). And along comes a girl, a girl that he doesn't even know her name until the end of issue 2! She effortlessly brings him out of his own head and makes him feel safe in the world.

In issue 3 you can see him beginning to crawl out of his isolation and have fun. He attends Jazmin's party (the girl he's in love with) and tries his hardest to have fun, when someone unpleasant interrupts the party. So why should you pick this book up? Well if you've ever felt awkward or lonely, he's easy to relate too. Sina Grace's art is really special as he is able to really connect youth culture in to the comic book medium without making it all gimmicky and lame. Another bonus is that if you're into the indie scene or underground music, each issue spotlights the creators favorite band. Good stuff. Read it!
