This issue of The Incredible Hulk is a good entry point for anyone who missed the first two issues. Not only does it have one chapter of the ongoing Hulk saga that is capable of standing alone ('Banished to Outer Space'), it features a three page, 21 panel retelling of the Hulk's origin story, and it includes another all-new adventure introducing another long-running Marvel villain, The Ringmaster and his Circus of Crime.
Unfortunately, Stan Lee's writing continues to remain adequate at best, and silly at worst - now, thanks to an electrical / radiation accident, Rick Jones now has mental control of The Hulk as long as he (Rick) remains awake. There are assorted other plot holes and whatnot as well - it seems that Stan at this time was directing a greater amount of his writing attention to The Fantastic Four, which he seems to view as his baby, and the true star of the Marvel line.
However, it seems like Jack Kirby, on the other hand, was really focusing his attention on this title. He and inker Dick Ayers are really starting to gel, and this issue has some of the best art Jack has turned in the first few years of the 1960s.

Hulk literally flies(!) onto shelves this month with an astoundingly bland thump. You think, maybe Lee and Kirby would let The Hulk stay as he is for maybe a few issues before dumping the entire concept and beginning anew (almost.) From being the Hulk exclusively at night to now permanent and with the ability to fly (which will be changed to a super… very accurate form of leaping) it seems no surprise that fans couldn’t connect with the lumbering madman who—though penned as having a split person...
