“SEE RED!” The Soviets and the Americans are on red alert and tensions are running high when Guy Gardner attacks the Soviet Union after Kilowog, John Stewart and Katma Tui consider joining the Russians. Unbeknownst to Kilowog, Stewart and Katma have been captured by the Russians and are scheduled to be terminated when the battery power on their rings wears out!
Kilowog, who recently defected from the Earth-bound Green Lantern group based in America and went to work for Russia, is in a air battle with Guy Gardner, who flew to Russia in an attempt to rescue/fight Kilowog, John Stewart and Katma Tui, because of their apparent opposition to America.
The fight between the two Green Lanterns has caused both America and Russia to go to "Code Red" and ready all their nuclear missiles. This is something unknown to either Lantern, but when the Red Rocket Brigade arrives and attacks Guy, things continue to escalate. Guy is able to beat back Kilowog, who disagrees with the Red Rockets interference and the Brigade who are ordered to stop Guy at all costs.
During the fight, Red Rocket 2 admits to capturing Stewart and Katma Tui, which enrages Kilowog and confirms Guy's suspicions. Kilowog flies off to confront the Russian government and Guy flies off to free the captured Lanterns.
Back in America at the Green Lantern Citadel, Hal Jordan gets a call from Ronald Reagan who informs him that Guy is attacking Russian and may be starting a international war. Hal and his team of Araias, Ch'p and Salaak fly off to stop Guy. On the way to Guy the team is able to stop the missile launch of Russia, without America knowing how close the missiles were to California.
'Guy is able to free Stewart and Katma Tui, as well as destroy most of the Russian hidden base. Kilowog attack the Secretary of State but is stopped by Josef Danoff, Red Rocket 1. The pair fight and Kilowog pleads with his friend to stop, but Josef is under orders by his government to kill Kilowog. Kilowog is forced to kill his friend Josef to stop World War III from starting.
