Don't be a goon! Check The Goon!

Like the man crooned, misery's the river of the world, and in The Goon #25, it's banks find the Goon's doorstep. The Buzzard alights from the spirit world an' imparts some heaviness on our hero, spelling out the implications: leave town and be happy or stick around and live like a sad sack to the end o' your days. Happily and humorously, Franky helps put things in perspective so the Goon can make his choice. Also, fun with firecrackers, a declaration of war, and Eric and Dave tag-team your eyes for the knockout! BOOM!

This issue would not be a good place for a new reader to jump in, but if you picked up the previous few issues and were curious whether or not to proceed further, hells yes, old potato. This is a climax leading to a fantastic denouement, and has plenty o'laffs and moody art that always looks to me like the weird love child of Jack Davis, Walt Kelly, and Jack Kirby... I haven't seen anyone emulate Powell's artwork, but his influences are obvious without his work looking remotely derivative. The coloring creates textured landscapes and faces that'd make a blind man cry.

This Dark Horse gem came out a few years ago, and with the talk of a Goon movie and Powell's success here n' elsewhere, you ain't gonner find it for NM/M for cover price unless Norton's wife bestows some gypsy luck upon you. I found mine on eBay with a signature and a COA. Plenty there and at mycomicshop.com.

    Good luck and enjoy.
