    Flight of Fury 0

I was looking forward to this book since the relaunch was announced. Gail Simone's name on the credits instantly caught my eye and I was eagerly waiting. While I can't say I'm super-disappointed, I can't say I'm super-impressed. This book is the exact opposite of Batgirl. Batgirl has a great plot but terrible characterization. This has FANTASTIC characterization but the plot doesn't seem to be there. The book starts off great establishing the relationship between Ronnie and Jason and I really li...

Playing cards with the elements 0

This issue is yet another this month in the DC new 52 that uses one of those "follow the bouncing ball" type of writing styles.  And that having been said there are a lot of good moments in here.  Just the action shifts around from place to place so much that it is hard to get a grasp on the coherent story.  The issue starts on an interesting note, with the relatively unused location of Istanbul providing the setting for the relatively violent first act.  Then we see a relatively generic high sc...

You Can't Spell FUN Without Firestorm 0

Ever since this relaunch started I have constantly been surprised by how many books I was expecting to dislike or not care about that have turned out to be incredibly fun. And now you can add Firestorm to that list. I wasn't expecting it to be bad, just not something I was going to be interested in. But just like Hawkman, Wonder Woman, and so many other books, this one really put me on a ride that I enjoyed and wanted to go on again. Now don't get me wrong, there were some things in this book I d...

    Common tropes abound 0

I think this story is a bit rushed largely due to a number of pages devoted to establishing the bad guys as bad guys that aren't really needed. This rushing causes it lack something more that it could deliver on later down the road that could be great, but as it stands right now it is above average wavering between the bad and the good. One might say this book is somewhat like the higgs that it was titled after in that it is a title that is hard to pin down. The main problems one might have with ...

This Book Needs Wraparound Covers Just to Fit the Title 3

Gail Simone and Ethan Van Sciver bring us their reinvention of Firestorm in the ridiculously long-titled the Fury of Firestorm: the Nuclear Men. It's a busy first issue that struggles with itself to balance out the need to lay out all the groundwork for the plot while also introducing readers to its two leads. It manages that pretty well, though, and so the DC Universe has a new start to its Firestorm mythos.Fury of Firestorm, which is what I will be shortening the crazy title to from now on, is...

The ingregients are here but they aren't properly mixed 0

Firestorm has always seemed like a cool character but he's never been one I've followed. Once I saw Ethan Van Sciver and Gail Simone attached to the project I immediately decided to give it a try. "The Fury of Firestorm" #1 is a completely new start for Firestorm giving it a more contemporary feel. It's also a new start for the two moody, angry teenagers who Firestorm inhabits. It's a decent introduction to the characters. Too bad the characters aren't very likable.  Both Ronnie and Jason spend...

    Not One, but Two 0

With Ethan Van Sciver and Gail Simone co-plotting and Yildiray Cinar drawing Firestorm has been re-imagined and this time, Firestorm is not one, but two people!  THE GOOD: The art is really good. I love Yildiray's work and I'm glad that he is apart of the new 52. I have never read a Firestorm comic so I'm not sure how much they changed but I think this the way it is. The beginning gives you a feeling of how bad these people are. It also keeps you kinda guessing what they are after. I really like...

    This Was Just Horrible 1

This isn't a series I was anxious to read. I really only picked it up because I thought Ethan Van Sciver was going to be the series artist but instead he's credited as "co-plotter" with Gail Simone. Firestorm seems like he could be a pretty cool character, I've just never been able to read much about him. Unfortunately this first issue did nothing to make me care about him at all.  This is simply not a good issue. It's proof that Gail Simone is overrated. I'm not saying she can't come up with an...

    Jason was a dick. 1

Review for Fury of the Firestorm and I don't feel like writing the rest of the title.  The Story: A bunch of mercenaries want to find something relating to Dr.Stein and when they find Ronnie and Jason in high school when they become there respective Firestorm at the end.  The Good: We have a group of mercs going around being a very effective team by killing all targets we see Gail's writing of Secret Six shine trough because this group is very fun. Also Gail is trying to make Ronnie and Jason ve...

The Review of-The Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men-The Monarch 1

The Good: I absolutely love the new logo, the rigid structure of the words and the crazy spiral thing on the 'O', it just looks so awesome. The cover is pretty crazy too, I think it's definitely going to pique the interest of some new readers. I can definitely feel Gail Simone's touch in here. We've got villains who are cruel and sadistic without coming across as flat, but still not being likable. Never seen Yildray Cinar's art before but I definitely like it. It's mostly got a normal look in...

This book will bring Fury indeed! 5

You would think the books that is featured in the interview section of the 52 would be better.  This comic feels forced, not just in narrative, plot and purpose, but also in its construction.  This comic is not polished, there really is no excuse for messy boarders, when photoshop can clean it up easily, which is sad that stuff like that find print, since it ruins the page a little.  The picture above is an example where there is a great juxtaposition of both Firestorms.  Both boys with opposit...

With one of them altered on a molecular level by the Magnetic bottle our heroes have their first super villain tied directly into their empowerment and origin.High School- Pitting our titular heroes against each other in the most basic sense works well in the high school setting; Jock and Nerd; polar opposites who hate each other instinctively.
