I had the privilege of meeting Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson at last year's Hasbro Toy Fair. While chatting about G.I. Joe: Retaliation, I ended up asking him about the other toys he collected as a kid. He told me he was a huge Star Wars fan at the time and he loved having Han Solo and Boba Fett take on the Joes (Fett won, of course). Well, at the Australian premiere for G.I Joe: Retaliation, the actor once again expressed his passion for the classic sci-fi franchise... but this time with a blunt message: he wants to be in Episode VII. Chatting with adelaidenow, Johnson said the following:

So when I got the call saying, 'How do you feel about becoming the leader of the G.I. Joes?', it was like if I got a call from George Lucas saying, 'I want you to be in Star Wars'.
I'm gonna call J.J. and you're gonna help by printing it and I'm gonna be inStar Wars!

Viners, would you want to see The Rock appear in a galaxy far, far away? If so, what kind of role do you think he would have?

Meanwhile, TotalFilm also asked various actors and directors if they'd be interested in the franchise. Check out the video below to see how the likes of Joss Whedon, Bryan Singer, Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis and many more responded!

Star Wars: Episode VII will be directed by J.J. Abrams and is scheduled to come out in 2015.

I like Dwayne. His movies aren't amazing but i always enjoyed them. I wouldn't mind seeing him in a minor part, i honestly wouldn't know what role would fit him though :)

I honestly don't know how they would do it. Or what the plot of the story will be. So I'm iffy on this movie. Maybe if Joss Whedon wrote it, then I would give it a chance.

While I wouldn't want Dwayne Johnson in any of the future Star Wars movies, this does raise an interesting point, which is what big name is going to be in the next Star Wars (aside from confirmed cast members). Because it's ultimately going to happen. Samuel L. Jackson appeared in the prequels as a completely new character, one that didn't have the explosive personality he's sometimes known for in other roles, yet we accepted it because he had a certain gravitas to it as the reserved Mace Windu.

I feel like something similar will happen with another big-name actor, I just hope they choose someone a little bit unexpected and not someone who is solely known for huge action movies, like Dwayne Johnson or Jason Statham.

Minor role if anything. Better answer is just "No". I like him, but I don't see him in this movie and don't want him to take away from the other more important roles. I don't want it focused on him; he usually has a presence in a film which is usually the same. Good for some movies. Not for Star Wars.

The Rock can't screw this up. Even if Jar Jar Binks is in it, that won't screw it up. All they have to do is write a good, original story. If you have the right story, then these details are inconsequential. Look at The Matrix. Reeves is passable at best as an actor, but wow that story is just gripping. Now look at Matrix 2-3. Same actors, same everything. Actually way more effects and big action, but much worse movies. It wasn't Reeves that made the first one good nor the other two worse. IT WAS THE SCRIPT.

He has proven himself to me so I'd be cool with it, I'm not saying he should be in a lead role or anything but a small role as some kind of big alien bad ass would work cause it's obvious that is the only kind of role that really works for him so why not.

@weaponx: I don't think he would take any attention away from anything important, cause just like any other fan he'd be happy just apart of it. Just look at his role in the second "Mummy" movie, when word broke that he was going to be in it everyone thought that he was going to be the main focus of it but in fact wasn't.

He'd be perfect for a small action role, the same way Ray Park made the Darth Maul role work so well. The role of a bad ass where the guy behind the makeup happens to really be a bad ass.

Honestly, he's so tall, he'd make a great wookie, but would he be willing to be completely concealed by the makeup?

Outside of that, I could see him playing other characters in Star Wars, but I question whether he could do it without being the star - just part of the cast. That's pretty essential to Star Wars.

Just go with actors who are not that well known. Instead of making it a "Who's Who" in terms of actors for the pending Star Wars movies, go with lesser known actors. Still, it would be interesting and fun to see a few actors like Dwayne Johnson or Mila Kunis in some roles just for sheeyots and giggles. Samuel L. Jackson pulled it off. Hard to say if anyone else can, however. Regardless, I am hoping the next movies will be great!

@SuperDoahBoy: Good point, but that was before he became as famous as he is now. However, having some small role would be fine. Also what you said about Ray Park and makeup does reassure me that it could work.

I can see him bringing the intensity if done in a subtle manner. By that I mean it would be a role akin to Arnold in the first Conan wherein there's little need for dialogue; the actions and cinematography speak for themselves. If cast as a 'silent giant' or something similar to that motif I can see him being a powerful character for either side of the Force.

@k4tzm4n: Wow. You've managed to awaken the Star Wars fanboys as well as the Rock haters in one post. Two groups I never thought I'd see cross. Of course finding complaining doesn't seem to be very hard on this site, or any other for that matter.

That being said I wouldn't mind seeing him play a bounty hunter. I have no idea what the plot of the next movie is going to be so I have no idea what else he could play, but I'm pretty sure there will be bounty hunters. Or maybe he could play a hutt.

It really depends on what character he plays..or what kind of character. I really wouldn't want him to be a main character. Maybe something similar to Boba Fett where the role doesn't require a lot of acting, but more that you look cool! And his bulking body could be a great base for a cool alien costume or something. But don't let him try to act well, he can't!

Always felt the "Arnold" types just didn't belong. Like the Jedi and this sci-fi world had somehow evolved past the need to 'build' the body and growl like neanderthals.

(Ironic coming from me, as I practically live in the gym ... but still).

The Force has nothing to do with biceptual brawn.

Feels wrong ... wrong genre TBH.

Pretty much everyone I know likes him. He not a oscar winning actor by any means but he does have charisma and is great is certain type of roles. I'd like to see him as Black Adam.

I say find actors who are not well known, and add a little star power to make things interesting. I say for the following:

Dwayne Johnson: Bounty Hunter or a Wookie(cameo)

Mark Strong: Sith Lord or Imperial Officer(movie)

Ewan Mcgregor: Old Ben Kenobi as a Force Spirit(movie)

    Stanley Tucci: Politician(cameo)

    Nicholas Hoult: Some Jedi (cameo)

Hey, I'm sure it can work! My words are wisdom people!

Also the last scene of the video with Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman, hilarious! Also I agree, Chewbacca needs depth! xP

The Rock being Samoan can play someone like a Mandalorian which (as far as we've seen on screen) is more of a Maori looking people. Since both Maori and Samoan are Oceanian, I bet it would be cool.

Of course the Rock wants in. Who in the world wouldn't? Mark Hamil, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, who (as an actor) in their (right mind) would NOT want to sign up for Star Wars 7-9.
