The Messenger
Barry Allen jumps out of the Speed Force and is transported to Gorilla City. With its citizens dubbing him as 'The Messenger', what does this mean for The Flash?
Plus
Francis and Brian are definitely geniuses in their own right with their vivid art, and their utilization of a very chaotic layout that never fails to draw in the readers. Now on an entirely differently setting (previously from the Speed Force), Gorilla City's environment and objects were drawn in a way that captured how primitive their race were. The way the plot unfolded was terrific and the pace didn't go too fast on this issue. There wasn't much action than what the cover might imply, but this issue's strong point was the impeccable art. Finally, the story begins in a short flashback which was faintly touched up in the middle of the issue. This tiny subtlety was brilliant and showed how well the creators knew The Flash.
Minus
It was a great overall issue yet it falls short in the ending where a lot of unanswered questions will arise. Puzzles in the end of each issue is good to keep the readers' interest but the points of the story that the creators skipped through were large chunks. Regardless of whether or not they'll touch up on it or not on the next issues, it would've been fine if a short breakdown was given at least,
Final Score
A great pick up for new and old readers alike. However, the disappointment of not getting any information at all with what happened to some parts of the story is a little hard to shake off but Francis and Brian's art and brilliant plot that revolved around Gorilla City should help relieve that. This comic should be on your pull list for this week. 4.5/5 stars.
