Fu Manchu is currently 168-years-old and due to the goof of an employee no longer has access to his Elixir Vitae (Elixir of Life), the formula which prolongs his life. His plot aims at recreating the elixir and once again escaping death. Nayland Smith has aged, retired from active service. Several years of enduring his opponent's tortures and machinations have left him slightly unhinged. But he is recalled on duty to face the Doctor's latest plan.
The film derives much of its humor from both opponents being way past their prime. However it was poorly received due to poor plotting. Helen Mirren stands out as police constable Alice Rage. She starts out as Smith's new partner but switches sides when Fu Manchu seduces her.
