The fallout from the Defenders' duel with the Devil starts here! The shock of losing one of their own splinters the team, and it may never recover! Which of the Defenders will stay, and which will leave for good?
After a major battle, the Defenders return to Dr. Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum to rest and contemplate recent events. Hulk is angry that the others seem so down after a big victory, but Hellcat is despondent that Daimon Hellstrom has agreed to be Satan's apprentice. The Hulk and Namor leave, and Nighthawk says that he is done as a Defender.
The Surfer convinces the others that they need some rest and relaxation to get back into their right minds. Patsy, Valkyrie, and Gargoyle leave on the bus to see Dolly Donahue, who was hurt earlier. Surfer, Strange, and Clea go on a tour around the world. Devil-Slayer, always a loner, goes off on his own.
Devil-Slayer meets Sunshine, a drug addict, and they make an unlikely bond between them over their respective unhappiness. Devil-Slayer promises to return to help Sunshine after he learns to help himself.
Patsy and Val bond over their past friendship, which Patsy needs now more than ever with Daimon gone. They arrive at the hospital with Gargoyle. A kid pulls off Gargoyle's scarf, and he thinks that the kids will all fear him. However, they actually think he's cool and bond with him. Dolly is happy to see them all, and Patsy also makes friends with a girl who has cancer.
Surfer, Strange, and Clea visit an African village where they are happily welcomed. They see the good in mankind within the people of the area.
All the different groups return to Strange's home and make a final bond together as a group in their mutual emotional renewals.
