At Arkham Asylum, Joker is watching all the talk about Batman. When Dr. Wolper greets Joker, Joker in turn uses his ability of manipulation to get Dr. Wolper to set up a time for the news media to hear "his side of the story". At the White House, the President talks to Superman about convincing Batman to retire before he has to use force. At a police event, James Gordon is giving a speech that begins Ellen Yindel's start as Gotham City's new commissioner. At the end of the speech, Ellen Yindel gives a call for the Batman's arrest. The next day, Clark tries to convince Bruce to return to retirement, however Bruce refuses even though Clark warned him that the President would eventually send him to end Bruce. The conversation ends when the President calls Superman to fight against the Soviet Union.

Later, at the David Endochrine Show, Joker is going on stage to tell "his side of the story". Meanwhile, Batman is on the roof fighting Gotham City Police Officers trying to reach Joker. Inside, Joker pulls off his fiendish plot by killing everyone at David Endochrine's show including him and Dr. Wolper. Batman retreats with Robin to find out later that Joker has escaped. Joker eventually meets with Selina Kyle at her brothel to try to draw out Batman. When Batman and Robin visit the brothel, they find Selina bound and gagged in a Wonder Woman outfit. Selina provides little information on the Joker's hideout, however Batman and Robin eventually find out that the Joker is hiding at the fair grounds.

Near Corto Maltese, Superman has just saved the small island from being attacked by a nuclear missile sent by the Soviet Union. The nuclear missile did still detonate and the EMP drained all of America's electrical power, a move by the Soviet Union to cripple the county for invasion. Batman knew that there would be mass hysteria, looting, and killing in the city so he rounded up the Sons of Batman to dispense justice; his way. Meanwhile in the streets of Gotham, the police are having a hard time keeping up with the Mutants and the panicked citizens of Gotham. Batman ends up organizing all the chaos in the streets [mutants and Sons of Batman included] and they help keep the city sane.

Later on, Batman and Superman finally fight one another at crime alley, but unknown to Superman, Batman had already devised a plan. Near the end of the fight, Bruce's heart seemingly gives out. Due to this, Batman has made new enemies with intentions on bringing him down. -summarySince I was thoroughly impressed by the first volume retelling Frank Miller's amazing graphic novel Dark Knight ...

And more importantly, they chose not to compact the storyline as much as they often do. Personally, I thought tha...
