Creation

Created by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin's company Smallfilms, The Clangers was a BBC stop-motion puppet show for children that aired between 16th November 1969 and 10th October 1974. The Clangers themselves were mice-like alien creatures living in burrows beneath the Moon's surface, sharing their homes with the Soup Dragon. They were based on the Moonmouse, a character who had appeared in a 1967 novel based on another Smallfilms series, Noggin the Nog. The Clangers communicated with one another by whistling.

The Clangers made the transfer to comic strips in a series of annuals published by Odhams and later by Polystyle.
Trivia
