Tim and Currie meet, so that Currie can explain who he is. He gives Tim a letter.

The letter explains that he comes from a world where magic reigns, and where the world was created to fit the resolution of Tim's dreams. There, Currie was a teacher to that world's Tim, a skilled sorcerer. In this world, his mother Mary was still alive and he was still romantically paired with Molly. Tim gets along with Titania and the still-living Tamlin, and along with creations like In-the-No and the Wobbly.

They're all having a party, except Molly, when the Wobbly falls--the kingdom is under attack. They go to the roof and see that Molly is fleeing from a being who is mounted on the Manticore. The being takes off his hood--it is the Other. He and his creatures kill Molly and Tamlin, who had flown out to save her.

Various members of the group elect to defend the castle while Tim takes the time to cast a spell to protect them, but they fall one by one. He casts the spell, but a bolt blasts it apart and wounds Currie. The Other arrives; he believes this is the true Tim. He kills him, and absorbs his magic, but realizes it is not the true Tim. Currie, however, was protected enough by Tim's spell to survive when all the rest of the world is destroyed, and he escapes before the Other can kill him. He then begins to go from world to world, looking for the true Tim.

Tim finishes reading the letter. Currie tells him that he is a creation of Tim's, from a world that he created. Tim says he believes him.
