The successful 1989 Tim Burton-directed Batman, starring Michael Keaton in the title role was followed by the June 1992 Batman Returns and the September 1992 Batman: The Animated Series. The "dark-Deco" style was inspired by the Fleisher Studios Superman cartoons of the 1940's. This is the beginning of the Dini-Timm-verse. Paul Dini and Bruce W. Timm from Steven Spielberg's Tiny Toon Adventures. Originally, The Batman Adventures was just going to be a six-issue mini-series tie-in to Batman: TAS but was successful enough to continue for thirty-six issues, two annuals and two specials. The Batman Adventures was followed by The Batman and Robin Adventures.
