I told myself I wasn't going to post these clips anymore. The Avengers is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on September 25. We've been seeing deleted scenes, gag reels and that sort of stuff. It seems these clips shouldn't be released prior to the release of the actual disc. With the alternate opening being released on Yahoo Movies, I couldn't resist.

It definitely changes the tone of the movie. I can't imagine it actually opening like this. Pretty strange. Wonder if the rest would have still played out the same.

What do you think about this?

They definitely picked the right opening to have in the actual movie. Didn't really feel it with that one.

She really has it out for Fury. I didn't see that in the movie. Probably a good thing they cut this.

Well. The Hulk officially has given me my scare for a week in this alternate opening.

I am glad they went with the other opening.

Yeeeeaaah.....No. That didn't really work out so well. The actual opening was a little fast as far as throwing you into the action, but it worked out well.

What Crono11 said, they picked the right opening for the theatrical release.

That opening makes us think that Hulk is the main enemy.

I wasn't crazy about it but I love that shot of Cap. It could be its own poster.

It would have really put a damper on the whole fun feel of the move, that's for sure. Geez. That being said, I don't particularly like or dislike it but I respect it.

Though I'm not a fan of the original opening of Avengers at all (Loki pokey stick is lame) this opening doesn't work with the context of the rest of the movie. It makes the presence of the Avengers sound like a disaster instead of a godsend. This is more appropriate for a Issue 6 of Ultimate vol 1, where the Avengers (Ultimates) intervene in a Hulk-out incident that racks up a triple-digit body count in the heart of NYC.

While I find this being a bad way to have opened the movie, one of the things I like from it is that it shows us more of Maria Hill's personality. Having her criticize Nick Fury, believing him to be reckless and seeing the Avengers or the idea of "superheroes" as a bad idea, it's very much like the Maria Hill from the comics and I couldn't help but see seeds for the Super-Human Registration Act (even though I doubt we'll see that storyline in a movie anytime soon).

Yeah I was thinking that. It was very bleak and not within the overall tone of the film I thought.

I liked it. It would have made the movie pretty intense if the whole movie just kept flashing back to Hill talking to the board members throughout the whole movie.

They certainly dodged a bullet not picking that opening. Sheesh

It feels depressing, like they lost the battle. Glad they went with the original.

I liked the bleakness of it actually. I cant wait to see the alternate ending too.

I like the idea of fleshing out Maria Hill with this and showing that Nick Fury was taking flack for the invasion. He did disregard "the council's" decisions and this does push for Fury to possibly loosing his position to Hill...that is, whatever Fury does in SHIELD. The invasion was quite the Pyrrhic victory for New York.

Why does this portray Maria Hill as Nick Fury's enemy? In the movie you could tell that she didn't really enjoy receiving orders from him but I never got the idea that she would file complaints against him.

I did not see the Hulk coming...

This opening seems to dark and I actually kind of liked it but I wouldn't choose it for the theatrical version.

This sucked.

This opening is okay for a different movie but this movie wouldn't have worked if they'd taken it as serious as this intro implies.

I'm glad that the opening wasn't that. I didn't know Maria Hill was that mad at Nick Fury.

Aside from giving some insight into Maria's distaste for superheroes, it doesn't really add much to the movie. I'm glad they tossed it.

This opening seems a little too spoiler-ish.

I still think Hulk is like a freaking horror monster in this too...

Wooow. Talk about Debbie Downer. Very glad they didn't use this. But it does make me think that they have something planned for Maria Hill (I know she's significant in the comics, but sometimes stuff gets shuffled on the way to the big screen...).

I agree with you, the Avengers are supposed to be the people we route for and we probably wouldn't route for them if they sound just as bad as the villains. This scene probably would have worked better as an after credits scene, at least I think so.

(And Nick Fury says in 5 , 4 ,3 , you get it!) Hill, Bi---! Say something else about me assembling the Avenger's , I dare ya! , I double dare ya!

The alternate opening will make a lot more sense when you see the alternate ending. Lets just say Maria had one of those "gotcha!" moments.

It's weird that it is released here in Australia on DVD and Blu-ray TODAY (Aug 29) , nearly a full month before you get it there in a US.

The only problem i really have with that opening is that it officially tells you that the world survives but a bunch of people died. That kinda spoils the illusion. I mean, we all know the heroes are going to live. BUT the audience still likes to be played with. Right off the back you know that Cap is fine and so is the world, and thats too much security for the beginning of a superhero movie. imo.

Quite a bleak opening. Reveals a lot more backstory on Maria Hill and her discontent with Fury ignoring the 'Council's' decision. Hulk's appearance startled me a bit.

I'm glad they didn't use this opening. It would've left a sour taste in the audiences mouth when Maria would appear on screen.
