    The Amazing Spider-Man: Untold Tales?
    The Amazing Spider-Man: Untold Tales?
In the most recent issue of Entertainment Weekly, Avi Arad, producer of the Spider-Man films, talked about the movie we thought would be a reboot. Apparently, it will not be the case with The Amazing Spider-Man movie:

"Exec producer Avi Arad says the film won't erase what came before but will try to weave a narrative that could take place within the framework of the earlier films. 'It's not a comeback,' he says. 'You have to look at it this way: Do you want to know more about Spider-Man? This movie is going to tell stories that you didn’t see in movies 1, 2, and 3."

The Amazing Spider-Man will have no J. Jonah Jameson and no Mary Jane when previous Spidey films had depended on them. This movie will probably introduce the Lizard when Connors was not introduced until Peter was out of high school in Spider-Man 2. The female protagonist will be a teenage Gwen Stacy when originally Gwen met Peter after his teenage years.
With the small amounts of information that we know about The Amazing Spider-Man it seems unlikely that the movie will tie into Sony's Spider-Man trilogy. Then, what did Arad mean?

I'm confused! What do you guys think?

Confused as well. Maybe it means that they won't focus on things that were expanded in the previous movies.

Yeah, I was thinking that maybe this won't be an origin story?

    -_- This makes NO sense.
If it's not a reboot, why have Spidey wear a different costume and use mechanical webshooters? Among other things.
I hope Arad was just being a troll here.

i have no clue, i don't see how this film is part of the same continuity as the other ones, the fact that this spidey uses web shooters means this is a differant marvel earth

i think its a reboot, and that they have no intention of retelling anything that came before.. except his origin ?? so they wont use the same villains. and maybe wont use mary jane either??? i really dont know what he means.. im just guessing

    @~The Wanderer~: @sladewilson30: I totally forgot to mention the web-shooters.
@Vitality: @MOONGREY: I think you might be on the right track there... He could've meant that you won't see anything that you saw in the previous Spidey films.

He's obviously just saying that for the people who are mad at the prospect of a reboot. That or he's totally babbling on with no idea about what he's talking about. Seriously.

haha maybe they're doing what they've done with every single superman movie that came out after the 3rd one.  Just forget 3 ever happened.

Retcon - Changing events so that they occured differently. (The Uncle Ben death scene from Spider-man 1 to Spider-man 3)

Reboot -  Restarting an entire franchise. (This Spidey movie)

Remake - Remaking a specific movie.

What Avi Arad meant was that this will be a side story and yet completely unrelated to the Tobey Maguire franchise, so you should come to expect nothing but the best that the previous films introduced (except the quirky, unneeded Sam Raimi/Bulk & Skull humor, unnecessary plot devices, horrible Danny Elfman scores and villain deaths), appeasing hardcore fans. That's what he meant.

@sesquipedalophobe: Basically, you just said that the new movie has nothing to do with the first three movies and yet is a side story, but if it has nothing to with the first three movies what is it a side story of exactly...? O_o

@War Killer: Nothing. I just wanted to be like the wishy-washy director whose general idea of the film became warped from the consensus of nonfans.
