The Spider-Man series were well known for a variety of firsts surrounding some major characters, usually first appearances for those in the Spider-Man villains gallery. This is a rarer case as the once villain Black Widow, already a hero by this point, gets the makeover to her eventual signature look in this issue. This story is a bit forced, even admittedly so by Stan Lee towards the end of the issue as he puts a plug in for Black Widow's upcoming back-up appearances in other comics, and the story more or less fizzles as most hero vs. hero stories do. The end result is a disappointment as an otherwise obscure chapter in comic history is mishandled.
