Movie Night
Surprisingly, I liked the story of this issue! I thought this issue would be a waste of time just used to bridge the gap between a great story arc and an upcoming great story arc. But, I liked the story and enjoyed it. It was probably the 3rd place out of the 4 issues I picked up this week, Ultimate Fallout, Captain America, this, and Ultimate Avengers Vs New Ultimates. But anyways, getting back to the issue at hand, this plot explores Peter and Betty's relationship. Their not a couple, but they are like really really close friends. Now lets go to the review!
The Plot: The beginning of the issue talks about how Betty and Peter have a special thing that they do at the first friday of every month. They watch a movie and have fun since they are good friends. Sometimes they even go out to theaters to see some movies. Now, in the present, Betty has been wanting to see a new movie that is showing in one theater in town for a limited time called Crossroads D' a Lamour. Peter keeps promising her that he will take her but always has to go do something as Spidey. Whether it's being space with the future foundation, or fighting an evil game master with the avengers, or battling spidey only villains like hammerhead, Peter isn't able to make it to see the movie with Betty. On the last Friday that it's showing, Peter still can't make it and snaps at her since he really does have to work at horizon labs this time. Betty asks Flash to take her but he is pretending to go on a business meeting while secretly going on a Venom mission. Betty decides to walk to the theater and see the movie herself, even though it's located in one of the worst parts of town. When walking out of the theater and near an alley Betty is pulled into the alley by a mugger. A few hours later, Glory Grant arrives at the hospital since she's Betty's emergency contact. She asks the doctor what's wrong and he says that Betty doesn't look too good. At Horizon Labs, Peter gets a call from Glory who tells him everything about Betty being in the hospital. Peter asks where it happened and once Glory tells him he feels guilty since that was where Betty wanted to go and he snapped at her. He suits up as Spiderman and swings off to find the mugger who put Betty in the hospital. At the hospital, pretty much all the Daily Bugle staff that Betty knows and her friends have shown up. The doctor comes saying that they need to operate on her because of head trauma and other things. Jameson and some his assistants burst into the room and Jameson says that he will do everything to make sure that Betty turns out okay. Meanwhile, at a pawn shop in the area of the theater Betty was at, Spiderman goes berserk at a pawn shop that gives money for stolen goods as wells as not stolen. Spiderman sees the Betty's locket and interrogates the pawn dealer where he got it. The owner says a mugger named Harlan Finch. Spiderman swings around constantly throwing around a whole bunch of thugs asking for where Finch is. Back at the hospital, Flash arrives and May starts to wonder where Peter is. Suddenly, everyone starts to wonder where Peter is, except for MJ who knows that he's probably hunting down the mugger. Peter finally catches up to Harlan Finch and is just about to attack when he gets a call from May asking him where he could possibly be instead of with the group at the hospital. She gets mad at him saying he did the exact same thing when Uncle Ben died and ran out of the house and didn't come back until later. She asks him where he was that night and when Peter doesn't respond she tells him he should come right no and that he's not responsible. Peter swings to the hospital and a few hours later Peter has movie night with Betty who wakes up from her surgery still injured but able to watch it with Peter in her hospital room. The next night though, Peter catches Finch. The End... For Now.
I'll Never Let You Go mini plot: Aunt May and Jay move away because they feel New York isn't safe anymore
Good Parts of this issue:
- The plot being really similar to Amazing Fantasy 15 in some ways
- Peter and Betty still having movie night
- J Jonah Jameson barging into the hospital shouting but sad and wanting to help Betty
- Spiderman going berserk on a bunch of criminals to find Finch
Bad Parts of this issue:
- Peter and Betty in a way cheating on Carlie and Flash
- Peter could have talked to Aunt May with the earpiece while taking down Finch instead of taking him down the next night when he could've harmed somebody else by then.
This issue was great except for a few mistakes. I'm just glad that we're making some progress her finally! Don't get me wrong, a lot of things have happened that have changed the status quo of the original spiderman like Billy conners dying and Doc Ock's old. But finally, Aunt May's moving away after 664 issues to boston! Anyways, loved most of the issue.
4 out of 5 stars!!
Pick it Up for another lesson of With Great Power comes Great Responsibility!!
