New Suit for a New Problem
After the death of Marla Jameson, Spider-Man vows that no one dies while he's protecting New York. But how hard will it be to keep this promise when a new villain, Massacre, is bent on killing the very people Spider-Man promised to protect?
The Good
Spidey's lost his spider-sense, and he's struggling with problems that never used to come up. We see Spider-Man lost and confused without his spider-sense having to think for him first, and Slott does a great job incorporating problems from past story arcs into this current one. With all the deaths that arrise, we see a serious side of Spidey that hasn't been seen since the Grim Hunt. The addition of a brand new villain was also great as the writing makes him feel so familiar. Adding to the main Spidey story, we see some great character development from J. Jonah Jameson.
The Bad
Personally I'm not really digging the new suits Spidey's making for certain situations. Although the reason for the new suit was legitimate, I'm not a big fan of it. I get that Spider-Man is one of Marvel's very versatile characters, but I thought his versatility came from his character, not from one of these new suits.
Verdict - 5 out of 5
Dan Slott has definitely been very consistent with hitting it out of the park with these Spider-Man stories. Marcos Martin joins him here with the art to fully deliver a great story. We get to see a very intense and serious side of Spidey, inside and outside his costume. Although I'm not a big fan of these new suits, it was just a minor blemish in yet another great Spider-Man story.
