    Bloodwolf's 100th Review

Wow… 100 reviews. Since I’ve started at this humble website nearly a year ago I’ve written 100 reviews of new comics, old favorites, feature films and Secret Six. I figured my 100 review should be something special, or rather, special to me. This is not a noteworthy comic, it didn’t break any new ground, it is simply what I think of when I recall a time when I was a young kid just starting to get into comic books. And of course, it comes from the great mind of J. Michael Straczynski.

Spiderman and Mary Jane have been separated for quite some time, but each one now desperately wishes to reconcile. Unfortunately, with Mary Jane’s work as an actress and Peter doing… well we all know what he’s doing don’t we, they have a hard time finding the time to do it. They finally meet up at a Colorado airport. Finally, after all this time they can talk to each other, nothing can possibly happen to interrupt them. Absolutely nothing I say!

And then Doctor Doom walks in.

    No Caption Provided

Doom is apparently here in the states for some kind of U.N. peace conference or something or other. I’m honestly just more surprised that Latveria is even part of the United Nations. This is a lot like having Achmed the Dead Terrorist show up on an episode of Sesame Street. He’s technically qualified to be there, but he would be incredibly out of place. Speaking of Achmed, some suicide bombers and assassins in high tech armor show up and try to assassinate Doom. So, Spidey has to simultaneously save the life of one of his greatest enemies and patch up his relationship with Marry Jane. Also, it turns out that one of Doom’s escorts is, in fact, Captain America. You gotta love the perks of owning your own country.

The fight is pretty standard, but what saves it is Spidey constantly taking a break to talk with MJ. It’s especially funny when MJ complains that Peter never introduces her to his “work friends.” After Cap and Spidey save the day, Doom approaches Spidey expresses his gratitude. Doom says that he now owes Spiderman a dept and Spidey basically uses it to tell Doom to go f*ck himself, and in return for saving his life, Doom doesn’t kill Spidey for mouthing off.

We end with the tension dying down and Spidey introducing Mary Jane to Captain America. Cap is pleased to meet her and parts by giving Spidey some advice. “The Mask is meant to hide your face, it should never hide your heart.”

    What Works:

This is really just a fun little one-off story that reminds me why I love Spiderman, and by estension why I love comics.

    What Doesn’t:

The fact that this quality of story is no longer the standard for Marvel

    Overall:

    5/5

100 reviews. Hell of a thing that. To all of my followers and casual readers, thank you so much for sticking with me over this past year. I’ve since fell in love with reviewing. I’d like to take this time to thank each and every last one of you who has supported me over the past year. Here’s to another 100 reviews in the coming year.
