Not bad
I haven’t done one of these for a few issues, so I thought I’d express my opinion.
The comic was okay. Nothing too horrendous, but nothing spectacular, it was fine.
The art is on point, regardless of how I feel about the writing this is a very nice book to look at.
There was nothing really else that stood out to me so this review will be a short one. I guess I’m intrigued about the man in the red but that’s pretty much it.
One thing that is worrying me is how much setting up there is, first Doc Ock, then Osborn, now the red suited man recruiting Rhino and Lizard. This is on top of the Zodiac. And soon it seems Spidey will also face off against Mister Negative along with Cloak and Dagger. It seems like a lot to juggle and there’s almost a lack of focus going on.
I didn’t care for the Katy Perry song reference at the start I thought it was dumb and it makes the comic look lame. The dialogue is always my biggest problem, this time around it was alright I guess, though there was some silly lines thrown around.
Another thing that annoyed me was how Peter got advice on how to beat his own villains from a child. The young girl is conveniently some child prodigy who also happens to speaks fluent English mind you. (The comic takes place in Africa). That is nothing short of embarrassing on Spider-Man’s behalf but these things don’t surprise me now this far into Slotts run.
I understand the message that is being conveyed, that there are those living in third world countries who are very gifted but don’t have the things we take for granted and with more support these people can recognised. But it shouldn’t be at the expense of the title character by making him look like an idiot.
I did like how we saw some gadgets and innovations from previous issues make an appearance I honestly thought they’d be a onetime thing so it was good to be proved wrong. The cover by Alex Ross also deserves some recognition, it's excellent.
That’s really all I have to say, average issue for me. Go check it out or read Batman #47 instead.
