Now everyone knows that Starlin is the king of Thnaos and that when other writers try to take up the mantle, the fail, horribly. Some authors though have managed to tell good or even great stories with Thanos that weren't a result of Starlin. IMO the best non-starlin writers are

1. Keith Giffen
2. Ron Marz
3. Dan Abnett/Andy Lanning

I felt like his portrayal in Annihilation was just as good as Starlin, if not better. Maybe not so much power-wise, but character-wise it was pretty amazing

He was shown as crafty and good manipulator, when he manipulates 2 primoridal gods into taking Galactus out.

Then he was shown as a great searcher - when he tries to find out ways to use power cosmic

He showed himself as a good scientist, tech expert and inventor - when he turned galactus's planet-busting tech into something else - a battery for annihilus

He showed nihilistic tendencies, but also retained the character development post IG given by starlin.

He was brutal

He valued curiosity all above everything and subconsciously orchestrated his own demise by aligning with annihilus

He still loved death.

And most importantly, he finally united with death. This would have been an amazing character end for him and Drax. Atleast it was for a few years till Aaron crapped all over him

Hickman was just a brute in literal sense

@apex_pretador: True, also THANOS RISING was a precursor to INFINITY but they literally made no sense together because at the end of RISING Thanos rejects Lady Death but in INFINITY He & The Cull Obsidian still worship Death, so my question is at the end of RISING did A'lars make Thanos DOUBT that Lady Death was a physical being or convince Thanos entirely. Because if so RISING is no way canon.
