Ten Rings

Origin

The Ten Rings is one of the Five Sets of Heavenly Weapons of Ta-Lo, each of the weapons inspired Zheng Zu in the creation of the Five Weapons Society and their houses: One Hammer (Hammer), Two Swords (Sabre), Nine Daggers (Dagger), Three Staffs (Staff) and Ten Rings (Hand).

Many years ago, the Wyrm of Desolation invaded Ta Lo, he ended up being imprisoned in Nezha's Universe Ring, however, even trapped, Wyrm of Desolation was able to corrupt Nezha, who ended up being killed by his brothers Jinzha and Muzha, the Jade Emperor decided to divide the Universe Ring into 12 rings, however, only ten remained with the Jade Emperor.

Zu planned to invade Ta-Lo and steal the weapons, but upon arriving in the realm, he met Jiang Li, a human of Ta-Lo and fell in love with her, they both got married and had two children: Shang-Chi and Shi-Hua.

To stop his grandfather, Chieftain Xin, Shang-Chi steals the ten rings under the influence of his father's ghost, after beating his grandfather, he gives them back to the Jade Emperor, but a month later, the rings appear in the House of the Deadly Hand.

Creation

The Ten Rings were created for the film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

The Ten Rings were inspired by the Mandarin's Rings, to avoid comparisons with the Infinity Gems, the Ten Rings were recreated, producer Jonathan Schwartz stated that they were inspired by the iron rings that look like bracelets, used for training in Chinese martial arts such as Yau Kung Mun and Hung Gar, Schwartz cites the film The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978) as inspiration.

In Shang-Chi #11 (2022), the writer Gene Luen Yang adapted the Ten Rings into the main continuity, making it a weapon of Ta-Lo used by the Jade Emperor.

In Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings #5 (2022) it is revealed that the Ten Rings originate from the Universe Ring of Nezha, a Chinese deity.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

In the film, the Ten Rings were found by Xu Wenwu a thousand years ago, the ten rings granted powers to Wenwu being able to launch energy attacks and granting him immortality (just as Zheng Zu obtained from Elixir Vitae). Wenwu created a criminal organization and named it the Ten Rings.
