The ones which call themselves Turtles are back on television with another impressive television episode!  'Metalhead' revolves around Donatello and his sudden realization of "Hey, why am I using a stick against advanced alien robots?!"

Just like the other episodes, 'Metalhead' is consistently hilarious.  There's some downright brilliant humor surrounding Donatello's powerful but clunky creation.  Every scene of the Turtles swiftly and silently leaping across rooftops is pure gold and extremely cool to watch.  Throw Metalhead into the mix and the end result delivers a good laugh as each footstep has the impact of a T-Rex, completely defeating their focus on stealth.  The segment with April on the rooftop is also a gut-buster as Donatello not-so-smoothly admires her through the bot.

If you're loving the style of action in the show, this episode will not let you down.  The team fully utilizes their weapons against the Kraang, having no reservation to slice them apart and stab into their robotic heads.  Seeing his teammates defeat the alien robots with ease as he strikes them with his stick is precisely what gives the purple Turtle his hysterical epiphany.  When he goes to Splinter about his weapon woes, the resulting conversation is sure to give a good laugh as well.  Six foot staff isn't good enough?  How about a seven foot staff!

    No Caption Provided
Donny using Metalhead like it's a first-person shooter video game was equally funny and particularly creative; truly showcasing how he's the nerdiest of the bunch.  It's hard to believe he can control such an advanced and deadly piece of machinery with a controller identical to the original Nintendo one (d-pad and two buttons)... but hey, it's a kids show and this is a pretty minor complaint.

Kraang speak makes its return and doesn't disappoint.  The innovative method of talking is plentiful in this episode yet never feels redundant.  Mikey's remark on one of their lines is sure to give you a solid laugh, too. It's just one of the many examples of how surprisingly sharp the writing is.

Donny's need for a new weapon feels odd since we've previously seen him modify his staff to include a retractable blade.  It makes me wonder why he doesn't include that once again, seeing as that would allow him to easily slice and dice the Kraang.  Regardless, I'm happy he didn't opt to go down that road because Metalhead was a highly entertaining and hilarious creation.  The show continues to impress, I just hope we'll get to see more of Shredder's plot in the next episode!

Turtle fans, what did you think of the episode?

@sentryman555: I just view it as a harmless crush.  I thought the way it was handled in this episode was hysterical -- the sound of Metalhead turning his head to look at her, talking to himself but not being on mute, etc.

It does make me laugh and I know its a kid's show so it really doesn't matter but in the back of my head I'm thinking "he's a turtle O_O"

When metalhead was being controlled by the kraang, it'd have been so easy just to stab the little brain thing and be done with it.

I also question why he didn't try and make a metal staff or something. oh well.

Every time they take out a Kraangdroid, I can't help but think "Squish them! They're getting away!"

I really do hope they get smart enough to start taking out the squealing bastards. Maybe they'll get it down to just one who becomes Krang as we know him?

I thought the same, but they're not exactly keen on killing living creatures.  Plus, it's a kids show.  You can't go stabbing and slashing stuff that'll bleed ;)

I haven't watched it yet but I'm sure I'll like it...Metalhead in the 80's was awesome....I remember the action figure had removable hands that you could put motorized nunchucks on and I used to stick them in the top of his backpack thinger and pretend it was a helicopter pack....then he was just as awesome in the 2003 cartoon....then when they finally included him in the Mirage comics when Donatello was shrunk and modified an Utrom body into Metalhead to use as his new body......sigh....Metalhead is awesome!

If it counts for anything, I'm not completely taking all of the TMNT content.  I think Inferiorego has first dibs on reviewing the IDW comic.

Still loving this show. The premise of this episode was a great call back to the old series. Nothing like a "Donatello inventing stuff" plot to get the nostalgic juices flowing. I think I've been playing way too much XCOM: Enemy Unknown because I noticed a lot of similarities in the action of this episode. You've got hostile alien forces, laser guns, turtles taking cover, a remote controlled SHIV, and even mind control on an ally. The next game should try integrating melee ninja moves at close range. We will be watching Commander...

I saw this and I loved it! Great little rundown. Gosh, I'm not sure what makes me happier...watching this to relive my wonder years or listening to Monochrome Effect by Perfume. Hmmm, maybe I'm allowed to like both simultaneously? ^_^

Yeah I see your point. I do like the fact that its Donatello that has a crush on her. For some reason I think Mikey would have been the obvious choice so its nice to see they didn't go that route.

I am of the generation that grew up on the turtles. Cartoon, comics, toys, movies... for at least a 5 year period of my life as a kid TMNT was pretty much all I cared about. With all that being said, this is probably the best interpretation of the turtles I've seen. Its a great show imo.

I really didn't think I would like this show...at all, I'm "meh" on the TMNT, I liked the previous 4Kids show..but stopped watching once they went to the future, and I usually dislike CG shows..but this is actually quite funny!
