Ninja Turtles won't see theaters until at least 2014, but that's not stopping the reboot from setting the internet on fire once again. First, producer Michael Bay called them aliens, and TMNT fans around the world nearly broke their computer monitors in outrage. He and others involved in the project have told us to be patient and the final product will be true to the source material, but the latest bit of information was tough to read.

A script was leaked and virtually everyone agrees it's all kinds of terrible. The Turtles are from Dimension X, they're part of a bigger prophecy (who isn't nowadays?), and the infamous Shredder and his Foot Clan have received a drastic change. He's now Col. "Schrader" and The Foot is a Special Ops team. However, Michael Bay took to his forum and told fans not to worry because that was an old script that "saw the shredder."

Despite Bay trying to win back the fans, Latino Review points out that the script leaked earlier this year, and that comes nearly 2 years after he and Platinum Dunes jumped on-board the project. It's worth noting though that the film has been delayed so they can bunker down and work on the script. Based on everything that has been leaked, it looks like they'll need to make drastic edits if they want to win back the support of the TMNT fans.

Do you believe Bay's claim and think this script has really been tossed or do you think they're just making a few modifications here and there? Does TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman being part of the project give you some faith, or is this too much bad news to swallow? As for me, I'll wait until they release anything official before becoming too disappointed by the news. After all, it doesn't seem fair to judge the project based on what it potentially might be. I guess we'll have to wait and hear more as Turtlegate develops. At least we have the awesome IDW TMNT comic to tide us over in the meantime.

I really, really, really hope Mr. Bay has enough sense to not try and push such a tried piece of garbage script. Special Ops, Dimension X, Col. Schrader?! I'm not even a TMNT guy, but I'd weep if they went with those as plot points.

IDW has proven that you can take an original idea and modernize it successfully. What would the point in going crazy be? Don't fix it if it isn't broken. The idea of this movie being made is becoming less and less appealing.

Michael Bay and Platinum Dunes is involved. 

This is the law of the universe. There is literally NO reasons for anyone to be getting any hopes up at all.

If Bay mucks up the TMNT, I shall be very angry. I'm not too interested in Transformers but given the fans response when Bay ruined that franchise, I dread to think what I'll do if he ruins one I actually care about.

Kevin Eastman gives me no faith in this movie; because they tried the same thing with Geoff Johns and Green Lantern. And we all know how that turned out.

The main problem with this whole thing is that Michael Bay is attached to the project. It does have the possibility of being good just like any other movie in pre-production, but from the looks of things so far it doesn't look good. I hate the idea of Bay messing up one of my favorite childhood franchises, so I won't give it much attention if any, I can always watch the old movies and cartoons instead, those are always good, with a couple of exceptions.

I'm calling for the citizens arrest of Michael Bay. He already murdered Optimus Prime, now he is trying to kill the turtles. Please people we can't let him kill anymore of our childhood characters.

Bay made a Transformers movie series which basically made the Transformers second fiddle to their human counterparts. The way this initial script was written it seems he was going to do the same to TMNT.

I'm glad Eastman is on board lending a hand. I'm also appalled Bay has even touched the franchise.

I'm not going to condemn Bay on this one. If he said it was a rejected script, it was probably a rejected script. It happens all the time.

That being said, I will say that Michael Bay's previous work inclines me to believe that he is good at nothing other than putting together fairly good action scenes.

Michael Bay wrote a bad script? Really? Stop the freakin' presses.

@Crash_Recovery: It's just that the final product - when it's a big budget action movie - has so much impact on how younger people see a set of characters.

The Turtles were cool and funky and the stakes were fairly small. The first movie was about revenge and a gang of thieves. Nothing epic. Yet it became the most successful indy film of ALL TIME!

Plus it's success led to the creation of the Xeric Foundation, which has been important to developing talent in comics for a long long time. So it's a big deal.

And if everything is changed, then it isn't even the same thing anymore. It's better when folks stick to what made a thing good and develop from that rather than completely rerigging something based on what focus groups seem to indicate the market is.

Which version of the Turtles should Bay be chasing?

The b/w indie comic?

The 80s cartoon?

The 90s films?

Subsequent cartoons/comics/series, etc?

I see a lot of commotion about cannon and how things shouldn't change, but the Turtles are an evolution. Things that fans of the 80s toon may consider cannon are just silly to the original indie.

Should the Turtles be valley-speaking pizza munchers? Should they all wear red bandannas and hack up human ninjas? Should they be skinnier and more athletic? Donatello "does machines" does that mean he's an engineer or a hacker?

I understand that everyone has strong feelings about TNMT being "accurate" but there is no true accuracy in something that's changed so regularly.

The same can be true for Batman. 40s comic, Adam West, Dark Knight Returns,and George Cloony are all valid interpretations, regardless of whether you're personally a fan. To somebody, that's their "Batman"

I think it's safe to say that this Turtles movie isn't being made for 40 year old fans, rather, a new version for a new audience. If you love the Turtles, support them in the format you enjoy.
