    Another Solo!

July's almost done! And even though i'm writing this now, I bought this in June, should have kept that receipt. So i had to stop by the comic book store, accidentally, i'm not even carrying enough cash after the bus,... and i see a new comic at the IDW Turtles section. Another solo?? we had 4 i thought we were done,...so... Splinter? neat! (And apparently Casey's next)

Well, the cover's got the same crappy art as Leo's micro, but it get's better inside, though only a little. But with Splinter's cover, it works better, this looks like that Mouse Guard book.

Well, inside there are Ninjas! Lots and lots of Ninjas! Splinter's in the same situation as he was in when he left him at TMNT #10. (this is funny because in that comic, during an argument, Don tells Leo that no other turtle except Leo had ninjas in their micro) So this ties in with the main series very well, right? well, not really, and that's a good thing cos a micro should be a stand alone in my pov. So Splinter's fighting ninjas, and he has this soliloquy......(idk if soliloquies are supposed to be in solitude, but he's surrounded by quiet but deadly ninja) and suddenly, we go into a flashback and this is my favourite part of the comic, the background which was black, turns to a neat parchment!

What i didn't like (and there was a lot of those) was that the rest of the story *SPOILER* is a flashback. And not a good one either. Ancient Japan ninja stuff should be awesome, but this wasn't, it could have been made better. So it's a flashback, (which doesn't make it too bad since you dont miss too much if you didn't pick it up) then we get to see Yoshi's past right? Well, this makes Yoshi look like a complete idiot on his job. I like how his sensei gives him advice about his temper, and apparently the greatest warrior the foot once knew was once a dumb kid. But it could have been made so much more better. There is a little bit of philosophy and it's pretty awesome, but i think that should have been given more time, or am i the only person who would have liked it? normal people get bored, dammit, so i only get that much.

The whole past life thing,....i have been hating this idea from issue 6 or whenever was it when Raph joined in (which was a better Splinter issue than this. That part at the beginning,.. WOW!). Even though Don says that he wished there were something more to their story than a TGRI canister in Secret of the Ooze, aliens and past lives are not the way to do this.

I love Splinter, and i'm disappointed by this book. But hey, it told us more about his past life.
