I'm so glad to see this 2

Teenage metahumans appear everywhere. But while some might have good intentions, they can do more damage than good. That’s why Red Robin – Batman’s former sidekick – has to step up and try to knock some sense into the super-powered teens. The Good:It’s so good to see this. The Teen Titans are finally interesting again. The two heroes we get to meet in this issue – Wonder Girl and Red Robin – are different. Where the Titans pre-boot were basically the same character, there’s a thief who doesn’t wa...

    Pre-Titan teens 0

Teen Titans #1 briefly introduces three special teenagers at different stages of development in terms of their heroic careers. Disregard the cover -- they haven't met yet, and aren't ready to charge into battle.First up, is the amusingly cocky and attention-seeking, but dangerously impulsive Kid Flash. He's still wearing a casual cos-player's homemade costume, and doesn't know what he's doing. On his own he's a menace -- just the sort of character made to mature under a mentor or as part of a te...

    Two for the show 0

Let me start by saying how much I love Young Justice and how great that DC is beginning to integrate aspects of it into the comics. A generous cross-pollination is always a good, just look at Harley Quinn. I have to say that this book was pretty fun for a while. Kid Flash is introduced right at the start in probably the most hilarious intro ever. Guess, we know who the team fuck-up is going to be. But then again, if this going off of Youn Justice, Kid Flash may prove to be useful eventually. I w...

Teen titans or Young Justice 2.0? 0

The books a good beginning which does have somewhat of a throwback to Young Justice. The story introduces each character and gives them time to have a short story. It doesn't try to cram too much in, but has just enough to make me hungry for more.Perhaps other people that know the other characters better can state things about the cannon problems of the books, but as it is my main problems are with Tim Drake... by far one of my most favorite characters in all of western comics. Now the problems ...

There will be Hell to pay 2

Why? Because Kid Flash is an idiot, unrelated to The Flash, and Red Head, very very read head. If DC seriously returned Wally to be Kid Flash and made him a moron.....I'll wait for next issue, but I'll be watching you DC, I'll be watching you. (Yes, I do hate the books just because they seem to have returned Wally to being Kid Flash)...

Teenagers Scare The Living Crap Out of Me... 2

"They said all teenagers scare the living **** out of me, they could care less as long as someone'll bleed, so darken your clothesor strike a violent pose, maybe they'll leave you alone but not me."- My Chemical Romance  Yep, this issue reminded me of that song. In fact, it basically played through my head as I was reading it. The DCnU verson of the Teen Titans brings us a world where metahuman teenagers are running rampant. They're reckless, obnoxious and out of control. Like teenagers in the r...

    Smells like Teen Spirit" 6

So here's Lobdell's second foray into the teen story lines.  (After Superboy) Thankfully, since they're mostly (or all) underaged, no one's naked in this issue.  The quick and dirty: while the Teen Titans of the past still were TT members (Dick, Starfire, etc) the history of the current lineup (with Red Robin) appears to have been erased.  I never read Teen Titans before, so I couldn't care less.  I came to this book because of Red Robin and I like his characterization.  More on that later. One t...

If Miss Martian Loses the Skirt, I Riot. 3

Perhaps one of the most controversial of the New 52 relaunches, Teen Titans' first issue really doesn't do much to change or alleviate that controversy. It is what people expected it to be, a near complete reinvention of the team and characters that wipes out the bulk of their history. Is this reinvention an improvement on what has come before? It's really not, but it is not notably worse either.Scott Lobdell has come up with a clever premise of his own to bring this version of the team together...

Your troubles are just beginning 0

To be honest my interest in picking up this issue was to check in on what had happened to Cassie.  She was a sort of regular for a while in Wonder Woman and I was keen to see what had happened to her, seeing as she had been somewhat written out of the Wonder Woman mythos.   I am glad I did come to check this out though because this issue was one of the stronger ones from the new 52.  The action centers on Tim Drake, a more stylized and streamlines Red Robin.  There is a tie to his past but also ...

Justice League + Young Justice + Superboy + Runaways etc... 2

The Good: While I'm still torn on my feelings of Red Robin's costume, old vs. new, his new one's wings are metallic and can deflect bullets. That earns it and him some definite badass points. Not to mention that I'm really loving how independent Tim is here. He's not at all defined as Batman's sidekick, he's his own man. And nobody had better underestimate this guy. The cover's definitely better than the original solicited cover. More heroic and inspiring. Kid Flash is a riot. He just swoops in ...

    Meh. I've Seen Worse. 0

'Meh. I've seen worse.' Those words open this comic in panel 1, and they close this comic when I said them after reading the scant 20 pages here (several pages shorter than some of the other new D.C. Titles like Batman and Superman).  The artwork immediately looked like the overdone style promulgated by Image Comics, and sure enough, when I looked up Brett Booth I saw he got his start at Wildstorm under Jim Lee. This just added to the overall 'trying hard to be cool' vibe I got off this book.  ...

Could Get Better With Age 0

DC Comics the New 52's finale week is here and the release of Teen Titans was one of my most anticipated series. Did it live up to expectations?  THE GOOD: I really liked the art. It's smooth but sketchy at the same time and I'm loving it. I like the beginning's humor. I liked seeing Kid Flash. I love seeing Lex Luthor have his buildings make appearances because it makes me feel that these characters actually interact with Lex. N.O.W.H.E.R.E. is a cool concept. I really liked Cassie's appearance...

    Worth your time 0

Along with Wonder Woman and Aquaman, Teen Titans was a title I was really really looking forward too because it looked to be the most interesting thing featuring The Titans in a long time. I'd wanted to get into Teen Titans for a while but reviews for the previous series put me off from reading it. I'm curious as to what this new team will be like because so far we've only seen Tim, Cassie, and very briefly Superboy.Such an awesome costumeScott Lobdell finally breathes new life into the Teen Tit...

Glad I Picked This Up 0

The Story: Metahuman teenagers are appearing all around the world and are being criticized by the media for their actions. Tim Drake begins scouting them as he plans on putting a team together.  My Thoughts:I'm very new to writer Scott Lobdell only having read his work on Superboy #1 which I wasn't a fan of at all. What attracted me to this series was artist Brett Booth and the fact that Tim Drake and Wonder Girl were on the team. I was sort of skeptical about it and almost didn't pick it up. Af...

Well it sure beats raising cattle. 1

Review for Teen Titans #1.The Story: A secret association are capturing young metahumans around the world for some reason and they try to captyre Tim Drake because of his skill. The Good: Lobdell has a very good handle on Bart Allen's character, he's shown as a very young, reckless, fast mouthed and most importantly inexperienced hero who does more bad than good. Wich also shows that teenage superhero's are not looked upon very well because of their inexperience and because of that are persecuted...

A new team of teenage superheroes. 0

Synopsis: Red Robin goes out to recruit teens to take down N.O.W.H.E.R.E.What's Good? One key point to note about this new DC universe is how people see superheroes. They seem to be a lot of mistrust with them, despite them trying to do what's right. A group that seem to have it the worst, are metahuman/non-powered teenagers. Keep those facts in mind, and this makes this new version of Teen Titans worth to invest some time in.Tim Drake is still the ideal leader for a group of teenagers due to his...

It Works with What it Has 0

I am quite the fan of Tim Drake. Ever since he was the third Robin and then became Red Robin, I've been following him. I read every issue of his Robin series and every issue of his Red Robin series. To say the least, I'm devoted. So, that was the sole reason for me to pick up Teen Titans #1 seeing as it was basically the primary vehicle for my Tim Drake fix.Originally, I wasn't too much of a fan of Brett Booth's art. To me, it was a little too mid-90s nostalgia for me. After reading the comic, th...

    I'm not impressed 0

Coming off from concluded Krul/Scott run, this book was going to struggle to impress me, as the former creative team finally made the book something I wasn't going to swear at. Things got off to a decent start with Lobdell's Superboy that, while nothing that blew my socks off and reminded me a lot about X-23's origins (just less brutal) at least it wasn't alienating me as an older reader. Red Hood however accomplished that with Starfire, so entering into TT with Lobdell/Booth/Chase came with a m...

Teen Tians for teenagers. However I am an adult. 1

This book is what it is targeted for Teens.  If your appreciation for the medium known as comics is something along the lines of character driven stories with drama filled plot lines, then line up.  This book is not the Jersey Shore rubbish of the Red Hood and the Outlaws book, but it is still a team book that is meant for escapists.  I however feel I've grown too old to love comics like this.  I can appreciate what Scott Lobdell does with this comic and its character, but on the same coin, I do...

    Teen Titans 0

The Good: I like Red Robin's new costume, its cooler compared to his last one, maybe he should of also changed his name. Kid Flash is funny, but he feels different since he's not too close to the original flash. I like how they are distancing Cassie Sandsmark from Wonder Woman. The Bad: I found it weird as well that Tim would have this picture of him and Batman, I wondered who took this picture. I really doubt Bruce really takes time out of the year to take pictures in costume. Tim staying at Lut...

    An excellent revamp 0

The Teen Titans that used the characters Tim Drake, Cassandra Sandsmark, Bart Allan and Solstice, at its end, overextended itself. It could not capture the older styles. Too many characters died and too many changed in and out too fast. It could not recreate the powerful foes that cursed the best Titans; Trigon, Deathstroke, Terra (Number 1)There are hints that the first Teen Titans, in some form, did exist (See Red Hood Outlaws #6)But with the New 52, the baggage can be cleaned out. They know w...

Comic Review -- Teen Titans #1: Teen Spirit / Scot Lobdell, Brett 0

Originally posted on my blog, The Comics Cove, not too long ago...Okay, a few things before I launch into these reviews. I'm pretty unfamiliar with the Teen Titans, and mostly picked it up because Tim Drake seems to be leading the charge in this incarnation. He's always been my favorite Robin, and I have always been curious to check out this team, as they're essentially a junior Justice League, at least at first glance. There are a bunch of characters here I'm not familiar with, so if my reviews...
