Tanya the Fox encounters a seer and he reveals the future to her. In the visions, Tanya sees her future daughter Aryal , a dark haired girl, being killed by a bandit. She seeks out Brandeis the father of the bandit and determines to kill him in order to alter her daughter's future. At his wedding she tries to kill him but cannot and ends up allowing his wife to drown when she rescues his servant girl instead.
Returning to the seer to discover if she has indeed altered the future she learns that she has not and that the servant girl had been pregnant with Brandeis' child.
At the end of the tale she encounters a dark haired man who looks like Conan of Cimmeria and it is implied that the future daughter Aryal will be his.
