Really Bad
Tales to Astonish hits new lows with issue 39. To begin with, there's the ludicrous Ant-Man feature.
In it "radiation" turns a beetle smart and evil and it uses Ant-Man's gas to grow huge.
He controls all the other bugs in the world except, of course, ants. But in the end Ant-Man defeats him.
O.K., but is the issue redeemed by the backup stories? Nope.
Ozamm the Terrible! Is in fact pretty terrible. An alien comes to Earth and forces people to hop on one leg. He is defeated by an unemployed mechanic who for some reason should never have lost his job. The whole story shows an overall lack of understanding of even the most basic scientific principles like how magnetism or electricity work.
The Toy Soldiers is a story that leaves out the story part entirely. There's a set-up, there's an ending, but apparently if they told us what happened, "This wouldn't be a fantasy tale, would it??" What a cop-out.
The thing wraps up with the text-only 'The Remedy Oil'. This uncredited throwaway Postal Regulation story (usually the worst part of any issue) is actually the best story of the lot - barely - which gives you an idea of the overall issue quality. Avoid.
