Introducing the CRUSHER! He's on an unstoppable rampage, and his target: Iron Man!
Iron Man Story- "The Uncanny Challenge of the Crusher!"
At the start of this issue, Tony Stark is testing a centrifuge machine, which can build up centrifugal force in objects. Declaring it to be complete, he gets a small mouse, and decides to test his centrifuge machine on it to see if he can increase it's weight and density. At the same time, in some South American country, a man only known as Mi Professor declares that he has finished his experiments, and demands to be taken to El Presidente. The professor is taken, and offers a small vial of liquid to the president, saying that it is the ultimate weapon. The president suspects a trap, and so makes the professor drink it. However, the professor says that president should have trusted him, as his body grows rock-hard and his strength increases. Mi Professor then declares that he is the Crusher.
The president tries killing the Crusher, but is unsuccessful. The president then orders the Crusher to kill Iron Man, saying that if he does he will be declared the general of his army, whilst secretly hoping that Iron Man kills the Crusher. The Crusher accepts, suspecting the president's deception, but thinking that he can defeat Iron Man anyway. Not long afterwards, Iron Man is attacked, and finds that most of his attacks are futile against the Crusher, whilst the Crusher's strength is enough to make him a match for his armour. Iron Man manages to reach his centrifugal force ray, and increase the Crusher's weight so that he falls through the and through the Earth because of his massive bulk. After the battle, Pepper and Happy come in, and tell Tony that they've decided to elope.
Captain America Story- "The Last Defeat!"
In the previous issue, Captain America swore to serve the Red Skull for a full 24 hours, in order to stop the Skull from destroying New York City. By now the time is almost up, and the Skull asks Captain America where the world's newest atomic submarine is, since the Avengers were told the location. Cap reluctantly gives the location, before being ordered into a chair as the 24 hours finishes. Straps lock around Cap's wrists, and the chair then gets sent along a track, where Cap is placed before a laser beam. Cap manages to flex his muscles enough to move his shield, so that it reflects the beam back and destroys the ray. The Red Skull's ship then stops moving, and Captain America guesses that they've reached the atomic submarine. He then leaps out the window, planning to warn the sub about the Skull.
Unaware that Captain America lives, the Red Skull uses a hypnosis ray on the submarine to put the crew under his control. He orders the sub to surface, and Captain America manages to get onboard it. The crew attack him at first, but Cap manages to cancel out the hypnosis by adjusting the reactor's energy output. The Red Skull then orders the crew to abandon ship, not knowing that they're no longer under his control. Cap leaves with the crew, and the Skull boards the submarine alone. However, once he's on the submarine, he gets a message from Cap saying that he's adjusted the sub so that it's about to explode. The Red Skull then panics and starts looking for escape, just as the submarine explodes.
