Takeshobo is a publisher that started out with a focus on the game of mahjong which resulted in Kindai Mahjong and various spin-off magazines serializing a number of successful manga about mahjong and helped launch the career of Nobuyuki Fukumoto (author of Ten and Akagi).

Though Takeshobo also publishes more traditional seinen manga magazines like Namaiki!, Vitaman and Kissca; apart from Mahjong its biggest branch is the yonkoma manga market (where along with Houbunsha, it is one of the leading publishers in the genre).

With several monthly magazines in the genre that have lasted decades (first kicking off in the 80's) these magazines include: Manga Life, Manga Life Original, Manga Life Momo, Manga Club and Manga Club Original.
