Sword of Sorcery #7 Review
Sword of Sorcery #7 Review
Amethyst
Overview:
Amara and her allies rush to try to stop Eclipso from taking over Gemworld.
The Good:
The story is a both slow and rushed at the same time. It is slow in the fact that it spends time dealing with each character and fleshing out the story but it is fast because it covers a lot of ground. This might sound bad but it works, especially because it is similar to a novel that switches characters every chapter and it gives the story a good genre feel. The story itself is full of action with a small bit of drama and is very well done.
Christy Marx does a great job with the writing. She gives each of the main characters panel time and gets all of the major plot points explained in a reasonable and efficient manner.
Aaron Loprestri once again does a great job with the art and it complements the story and setting perfectly.
The Bad:
Nothing major but since the book is ending next month; there is an air of rushed finality around it.
Verdict:
A solid issue that feels a little rushed, if you liked the series before, this will be right up your alley. Seeing the characters incorporate some characters from the larger DCU is nice too.

Stalker
Overview:
Stalker fights Lucifer as this section of the story comes to a close
The Good:
Well, it is over. I have not enjoyed Stalker, especially compared to Beowulf and seeing it end is nice. The story did pick up a bit though, especially at the end. The last panel or two actually left an interesting cliffhanger.
Marc Andreyko once again delivers an action filled, if a bit predictable, story. The action is what lifted the story, seeing Stalker fight Lucifer without much dialogue was nice.
The art by Andrei Bressan worked well here and really stopped the story from being a boring misfire.
The Bad:
The story is still boring and it is really hard to car about Stalker.
Verdict:
While less boring than previous entries, the story does not live up to its potential. The most interesting part was the end which for the first time made me wonder what would happen next. The writing was pretty good and the art was the best part.
2.5 (2.7) out of 5
Issue Verdict:
Another great Amethyst story is hampered by being rushed but still stays strong with Marx and Lopresti behind it. Stalker is finally over, which is great. The cover by Lopresti is absolutely beautiful.
