"Welcome, my friends. Hungry?"
This issue starts off like how most Post-Apocalyptic stories start off... Road trip.....
Jeff Lemire's comics work best when they have unconventional panel work. Page 2 is a great example of his panels in panels and how they only add to the story and not obstruct or take way from the comic.
The Title page works wonders to set the tone of the Jepperd side of the story.
Most of Jeff Lemire's best narration is in silent imagery. Page for is a great example of Gus' "spiritual journey"
The Blend between the future and the presents at times is so sudden that it takes a second to process. Antlers on an older Gus? No Belly button so it has to be him. Scar, I wonder when that will occur. The beauty with Lemire knowing the ending in his head, he can plant future seeds with ease. The future is "Not Yet" so Gus has to wait.
[The above pictures were previewed by Vertigo, so they wanted you to see them, so I don't feel guilty showing you them.]
As for the rest of the comic, the motion for the Animal Army is going forward in this issue. With a future Gus with a scar, could that be a nod to John Connor in Terminator?
The story splits into three directions: Gus, Doctor Singh and Jepperd.
The Gus arc he is still In Captivity and we feel for him.....
Doctor Singh thinks he strikes gold finding ground zero.....
Jepperd tires to round up some troops, only to find hungry dogs.....
Like every issue of Sweet Tooth so far, I am "hungry" for more.
Cheers!
