The return of Anton Arcane continues!
I'm trying a new style of review for this issue it'll be a lot like the Deadpool one except possibly a little longer I want to see how it goes and how people feel about it please tell me in the comments.
As I said for the review of issue 10 I picked these up on a mere whim because I had extra cash and I love the current Swamp-thing series.
Plot
This issue continues from the last with Swamp-thing surrounding Abby and preparing to capture her and bring her back to the rot. Alec has apparently been killed by Arcane but (spoiler) he has been saved by the reborn Parliament of Trees. Abby attempts a escape but is stopped and is nearly taken into the rot but is saved by Alec who has now got all his Swamp-thing powers back. Arcane and Alec have a fight and eventually is beaten when Abby shoots him in the head it ends with Animal-man and his family appearing telling them they must go to the rot.
Review
I was really excited for this issue considering how good the last one was so I didn't think this one would be as good so I was interested to see how it went it's not as good but it was pretty hard to manage that.
The thing I loved about the last issue was the way it was written it only added to how creppy Anton Arcane is with it in blurred red colours and it happening in the past and in the end it joins up together so everything made sense it was just so good this issue while not bad didn't continue the incredibly creepy feel to it. This issue does still make Arcane feel incredibly creepy what he does and his dialogue is perfect this issue just doesn't have the same feel to it.
We also see the reborn Parliament of trees save Alec Holland and we get a truly beautiful double page spread it has such a beautiful layout to it. Now the parliament of trees seem a little self centred as they tell Alec they do not care for her and say she is a witch and he should only care for them. I mean yes Abby is a avatar of the rot but Alec is only Human so they should understand that Humans love the strangest people (especially in comics).
We also get a fight between Anton Arcane and Alec that gets pretty intense and shows how nasty Anton Arcane can get I always liked there rivalry but it's even better to see the fight now they are both more powerful and it does get pretty intense. It's a good fight and I love seeing the two have another rematch.
After this we get the aftermath and we get this bit that gives us a glimpse at what the future holds and what could happen in the rot world crossover. It's an incredible double page spread and is so good to look at.
We end with Animal-man and his family turning up and it's really nice to see this happen and sets thing up for both Animal-man 12 and Swamp-thing 12 which are both worth picking up and will probably get reviews soon.
Marco Rudy's is really good with the page layouts and the fighting sequences but personally I prefer Paquette Rudy's looks a bit rougher than Paquette's art and I think some of the inks look a bit odd.
The verdict
This issue finishes the two part story arc very well but has it's problems considering how good the last one was. The art also could have been better maybe a bit more refined. This two part story arc is well worth picking up and a great addition to the series.
4.5 stars.
