Sam and Michael/Superboy and Robin
Sam Loeb and Michael Turner share a few similarities with this comic. Both me were involved one way or another for issue #26 of Superman/Batman.... Sam being the inspiration and Michael Turner the cover artist. Irony would strike because we lost them both to cancer.... Sam July of 1005 and Turner June of 2008
An over-sized 40 page tribute for both Conner Kent and Sam Loeb was created by a superstar line up of some of DC comic's fine back in 2006. Using the plot Sam Loeb wrote, but not scripted, the talents of Comic greats like Arthur Adams, Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Geoff Johns, Jim Lee, Brian Keller Vaughan, Joss Whedon and many more gave life to this comic that could of ended up in Lucien's library. The story was fun to read, it would of been nice to see now Sam would of scripted it. Did he intend the Hot Tub scene? If so I liked the boy's imagination! If you haven't read this comic you deprive yourself of the Hot Tub!
After the fun of The Boys Are Back in Town, Jeph Loeb writes a Superman Story and tells Sam's life as a supporting character in Smallville, further immortalizing this young man even more. I have to admit it is 6 pages and it maybe a tear jerker for some. I came close.
One thing is for sure the Dead only are truly dead when they are forgotten. As long as their story is told, their lives live on a little longer. I encourage you to read this comic at least one every July. Not just because it is a good story, but because of the memory of Sam Loeb and as well as Michael Turner who supplied the lovely covers.
In Memory of both Sam Loeb and Michael Turner.
