So, I came across this page featuring the "World's Greatest Artists (ha)" doing a bunch of redesigns of the Superman costume. A lot of bad executions of good ideas and just plain bad ideas in it, but also some interesting ones. I'll comment on my favorites here:

Lomotan's Superman is a nice idea for an alternate costume, though not vibrant enough for the main one. It needs more contrast, too.

Here we have Superman as an angel with electric powers. I like this one, but it'd be better used for a Superman ally rather than for the big guy.

Superman as a knight. Not a new idea, but always a good one, especially combined with a beard. The only thing I'd take away is the sword. As cool as it is, Superman's not going to be using it often considering he is, well, Superman, and he doesn't look nearly desperate enough here that he'd need to use it.

Gez's design emphasizes the sci-fi aspect of Superman, giving him a Kamen Rider-like armor, but while I like it a lot, once again I think it'd work better for a Superman ally (preferably a Coluan).

Here we have the best design in the whole article. Equally an alien, a human and an angel, an ethereal, majestic creature that seems to be looking with compassion at something just outside the picture, this is an excellent redesign that, if not used for the man himself, then deserves at least to be used as an alternate version or even as another superhero.

This Superman just oozes cool, while also coming with a High Fantasy setting to explore. Definitely not a protagonist, but also definitely the badass secondary character that ends up sticking with you.

TBH, most of these look like designs from rejected Sega Genesis games. """""world's greatest artists""""" yeah, okay. I don't think Alex Ross needs to worry about being overshadowed by any of these guys.

DC already tried overly complex costumes and like most of n52, they went back to the basics with simpler designs.

I like them all their vision in the way they see Superman is pretty cool .

I liked the knight one, the rest look like they read a vague description of Kal, and then just slapped on a house of El sign on it.

I like the last one. Him wearing armor is weird, though.

Holy Bejesus that Angle-like design for Superman looks so fucking awesome! It gives this God of destruction vibe, only a million times better. I can already imagine him just destroying worlds he doesn't seem worthy of existing. I want that to be a thing so fucking badly!

Second from the last would be my pick, with a more human face. Otherwise, I like it. The rest are alright, but none really scream Superman in any impactful way.

Ever since they got rid of the red tights, I've been trying to find a way to get that Red, Blue, Yellow color scheme back in prominence (It seems like the newer artists just gave up on the yellow, outright)... I never though of how cool Superman would look with a sash...

A cleaner, more traditional superman version of that last image, though... Hmm...
