If they were planning to change it anyway? DC can't have a great writer redo the origin of superman(and have be high quality) and then just toss it out 2 years later.

When did he redo Clark's origin? Morrison has been handling that the entire time. Johns has merely pointed towards his origin during Justice League.

He's talking about Superman: Secret Origin. He's wondering why Johns was allowed to create that origin story only to have it erased about a year later by Grant Morrison in The New 52.

@Eternal19: I'm most certain that The New 52 wasn't in the works at the time Johns was writing Superman: Secret Origin, so he probably believed that the origin he wrote would stick around for awhile. When The New 52 was sprung onto the writers at DC, it was at very short notice and a lot of hasty, continuity changing decisions were made. Thus giving us yet another origin in The New 52.

@The_Tree: Ah, thank you for clearing that up mate!

Personally, I never really liked Secret Origin. I vastly preferred Birthright as an ideal origin story for the Man of Steel.

To be fair, Superman's origin gets redone every now and again...expect to see a different one in next year's 'Man of Steel'

I was all ready to read Secret Origin when the tpb hit. Then I heard about the New 52 and didnt even bother. I love the other Johns/Frank Supes stories though. I really should still give it a read.

I liked Birthright its a great story that i recomend to anyone who is even remotely interested in superman, but it had too many smallville elements in it for me to hail it as the best and as a person whos first exposure to supes was the Donner fimms. This is the origin for me

So...how does one redo Superman's story anyway?...Like what changes, could there possibly be? Or is it just more like minor changes and added stuff?

The basics remain, but details such as whether the Kents live to see their son reach adulthood or become Superman or whether Superman had a career as Superboy as a teen change. One significant difference in the New 52 origin is in his first year as Superman, he can't fly and his strength and durability are greatly reduced, closer to golden age levels. In previous versions, Superman's powers are mostly developed by the time he first takes on the name.

Johns is only part of the bigger DC elite, Geoff is only one person of the big group of DC Illuminati driving the Universe forward for the next 30 years. Jim Lee, Dan DiDio, Rags Morales, Grant Morrison and Geoff Johns are making the decisions together, its a team of people like you have a presidency with political advisers, economic advisers, war councilors and vice presidents....many people have a say in decisions. People like to blame problems on one face which is why everyone flamed Obama, Bush or Bendis, its human nature to try and blame a problem on one single person.

Why did Batman and GL stay in continuity while the rest of DC was reset? That's because the powerful writers at DC hate the continuity behind Wonder Woman, Superman etc and they only enjoy Batman and Green Lantern comics. Of course the lawsuits against Superman copyright wasn't helping either

What gives you the impression that out of all of DC's staff, Rags Morales has any significant input on anything other than the immediate title he's working on?

It's Lee, Didio, and Johns. They just so happen to let Morrison do whatever the hell he wants because he has that kind of clout.
