Having watched it earlier this morning (which is why there was no comment from me before), I don't think I can give it 5 stars myself. While I've made my doubts about having Kara around known, I'm so far okay with how she has been portrayed. I was also wondering how the Man in Black got the crystal, since the ship wasn't opened. I am also skeptical of her ability to sheild an unconscious Lois and the wider world from a space ship exploding (which looked more like imploding to me) with nuclear force.
I would have thought Domestic Security would be the proviso of Homeland Security, or the CIA, FBI or NSA. I suppose they made up a new department to avoid being seen as making political comments. In one sense I'm glad the feds have turned up, after all just how many alien invasions and meteor enhanced super criminals need to run around causing havok before they stop letting Luthor Corp and the local sheriff handle it?
I'll be interested to see how the current Luthor Head Goon connects Lex's scribbling with Kara. It doesn't look remotely like her, but could vaguely pass for most women with long hair. I suppose he has enough money for a Deus Ex Machina.
If I was editor of the Daily Planet, I'd have told Lois to send her article to another publisher. One specialising in sci-fi short stories. She might be happier as a novellist. The ability to write doesn't make you a journalist. The ability to write about events and include actual sources does.
Still, overall I enjoyed it. I just hope they polish the writing a bit more so we aren't forced into making jumps of logic.
I can easily give this episode a 5. In comic continuity Supergirl (Matrix) was in love with an alternate version of Lex Luthor (this one was good and had red hair) I'd bet the farm that at some point she falls for Lex, it wont fellow comic continuity but it will be a subtle nod to those who know what to look for. Cosmic Sentinel is right on about the Domestic Security (Homeland Security)simply avoiding any hassle by giving it a real name.
Kara is hot hot hot. Luv the way she's portrayed, 1/2 brat, 1/2 Kryptonian. Clearly there starting to evolve Clark and the rest of Smallville into a more adult Superman esc Universe and I think its great.
One question, who or what killed those Rangers?
It wasn't established who killed them, but I think the only suspect at the moment is Domestic Security.
right... lets actually use some logic to see where Smallville season 7 is heading...
anyone want to take a guess?
right, here are the clues we have seen so far in episodes and spoilers...
Kara originally came from Kandor (she said that a few times in the episode)
Braniac will be returning this season to the disappointment of fans everywhere
spoiler Clark and Kara will have an adventure in a red son environment
gee... lets actually check our IQ's to see where this is going...
for everyone out there who remembers me saying about 7 months ago that Braniac will appear with the Bottle City of Kandor in a future series...
HAH! I FKING CALLED IT!!!

He does abit, I think it's the ears.
Helen Slater looks abit like the blonde one of 'the Others' in Lost, Juliet. That's not a bad thing though.

Full Review of Kara
===================
Ahh, the Smallville beauty pageant... something held every year and it apparently the talk of the town for all the girls... then how come this is the first we’ve heard of it? Especially if there’s buried treasure as a prize?
Ok, ignoring the obvious plot holes here that you could drive a Mack truck through let’s take a look at the actual episode... we have Clark, acting like an adult towards Kara, and to be honest the scenes where they did interact were really well done and showed real feeling from both of them. Clark training Kara to use her heat vision was just there for humour I think, but it worked.
And yes, Lana is back... so we’re now back to the Clark / Lana romance angle, something I had hoped would be completely ignored this season with the developing Kara / Jimmy / Chloe love triangle. Still a few questions unanswered though, such as where is Lionel and MM? Surely he should have come in to check up on Kara by now...
Chloe is still working at the Daily Planet for that douche bag of an editor, who has apparently sent Lois out on an assignment, even though she’s only been working there a week and her first story was a proof less expose on aliens... yeah right... somehow I don’t see this editor lasting in the job, my thoughts are that he’s going to be killed off nastily somehow in the mid season double episode or the finale, opening the doors for Perry to come in.
Lana and Clark finally have a talk about his powers, though the conversation is actually about Kara, so Lana seems quite happy to ignore the past 6 years Clark’s been lying to her... Bit out of character for her but we’ll let that go for the minute as she might actually be growing as a character, I doubt it but maybe? So the Clark / Lana romance is back on, or off, or on... if they keep this up they’re just going to rehash the earlier seasons, something I hoped they had grown out of after the horrendous season 5.
Right, back to the original plot... Kara discovers that the treasure buried is apparently gold bullion, though we never actually saw this so god knows where a couple of hundred gold bars got to, or what they were doing in Kansas in the first place. Anyway, the treasure is actually a Kryptonian necklace, or pendant that Kara can’t actually read, despite being raised on Krypton for the first 16 years of her life... right...
So the other contestants at the pageant are meteor freaks, again, I thought we had got past the ‘freak of the week’ episodes back in season 3, but no, it appears a rehash again. They call themselves the ‘weather girls’ or something, I pretty much ignored them to be truthful. One has the power of ice, the other has the power of wind or earth, it wasn’t really clear, and the third one got put into a deep freeze some 10 minutes into the episode, probably improved her acting somewhat as well.
Jimmy discovers that the ‘weather girls’ are behind miss deep freeze and gets in trouble, again. So Kara, with her natural infatuation with Jimmy, though they’ve never actually talked and only seen each other twice, comes to rescue him from a freezing car. Jimmy, being frozen inside but still conscious while Kara rips the door off and stands there holding it with a gormless look on her face, not the best introduction to Smallville... and she seems completely at ease knowing people have powers in Smallville, despite complaining to Clark last episode that humans shouldn’t be that fast or strong... missing scene perhaps of her b!tching to Clark again, well I can understand why they cut that, we have enough of her b!tching at Clark this episode.
Kara breaks into the ‘sealed time capsule’ where the treasure map is hidden to stop the girls from getting their hands on the kryptonian treasure. She then goes on to win the beauty pageant and is subsequently arrested, even though the police have no proof she did it, or how she would have broken through the several feet of granite that was holding the time capsule. She’s put in prison so Clark comes, berates her some more and then heads off to face the weather girls, and proceeds to get his ass kicked. Kara breaks out of Jail somehow, and the police completely ignore this, and goes to help Clark. B!tchslapping one of the ‘weather girls’ clean across the car park, probably breaking her jaw in the process and kicking the other one in quite an impressive display of flight fighting.
Clark and Kara go back to the farm, where they have a discussion about Kryptonians on earth and who else might be out there, and Kara has a go as Clark for wanting a normal life with Lana. Over all I’ve got to say that they are getting the ‘Supergirl’ character right on the mark for her present incarnation in the comics, a petulant child who is complaining and b!tching all the time.
And now we have the other storyline... the stupidly named government agency is now in cohorts with Lex about the crystal and alien space craft, Lex gives them all the data he has on his experiments, some 240Gb of data, please, I have more data that that on my backup hard drive! Anyway, he finds out that it is Kara that rescued him from the river and confronts her, not before giving her a job at the Talon serving coffee. She denies everything but he seems pretty sure and tells her that he can protect her and that he’s already protected other people with powers... I’m sure you mean use, not protected Lex.
Thinking back, not really a good episode... to be honest, the only reason to watch this is the actual interaction between Clark and Kara. Lana coming back was a bit lame and wooden, even for her. And the sub plot with Lex and the government has been done to death. I can’t give this any more than 2 out of 5, and it only got that extra point because it had Kara in various states of undress through the entire episode.
I actually hope this is the low point of the season after the amazing episode last week, because if the series gets any lower I can’t see it being picked up for a 8th season.
2 out of 5, not amazing but worth watching for the 15 or 20 minutes worth of Kara and Clark.

now, i guess you must have seen this coming. What are your favourite episodes from all seasons? Top 8 because there will only be 8 season.
Crusade
Rosetta
Hidden
Justice
Red
Run
Commencement
am thinking of this one, had it for a second.
its probably up there, for being so funny; Spell. (WATCH THE COMMENTARY FROM Lana, Lois and Chloe) its the funniest episode with commentary on.
Buckshot says:
"G-Man says:" I didn't care for the pageant thing or those lame-o girls. I did like the Kara/Clark interactions. "I'm with you on that. She needs to teach him to fly.
I might be the only one, but I like the editor of the Planet."
Al and Miles said that she will be teaching him how to fly so woo whoooo!
Methos says:
"Lord Shazam says:"its probably up there, for being so funny; Spell. (WATCH THE COMMENTARY FROM Lana, Lois and Chloe) its the funniest episode with commentary on."never actually bothered with the commentary...
any good?

so funny, they just take the piss out of Tom Welling.
Hmm I might have to buy these dvds. I only got the first season because I was underwhelmed by the extras compared to the SG1 ones I was getting at the time. Firefly is a good one for cast commentary.
Moving on, I think I'm a bit more forgiving on this episode than Methos. I glossed over the Corn Queen thing's obvious problems myself. I was abit disappointed by having another freak of the week on, so all in all the main plot was pretty weak. My main problem is that you have to assume so much has happened off-camera (like getting proof Kara was involved), but I think that is probably because even the writers thought it was pretty weak and wanted to focus on the series arcs.
I have to agree with Buckshot, I like the new editor (though disagree with his editorial decisions) and would like to see him play an important role before Perry comes along.
It seemed a bit forced with the Kryptonian artifact being in with all that gold, maybe we'll see why later. Clark did say it was code and Kara said it was an S.O.S. so it wasn't that she couldn't read it, but that she didn't fully understand it.
I'm glad Lana is back, but I hope they give her something interesting to do this season. I think her forgiving Clark comes from having married Lex and her guilt about that. In a way, it's Lex I'm a bit bored off. Hopefully they'll give him something good to do, or give him a break so that he can come back with something really cool.
The Clark/Kara stuff was good and has relieved some off my concerns about how she would be portrayed. I agree that those scenes are the better ones of this episode, along with Clark and Lana talking about her IMO.
You do realise that 240GB would be like 10 straight days of video (assuming 1GB per hour which is way more than I use) or nine days and all the text and pictures you could want of an alien ship right? You're storing artificial intelligences on your hard drive aren't you?
i do hope that they give the editor of the DP something good to do, because so far he's only come in and made stupid decisions that noone would make running a major paper.
Lana... i'm just a bit sick of the will she, wont she thing thats been running for god knows how many years, if they give her something good to do this season then it might be worth while.
as for my computer...
i'm running a 1.2tb primary hard drive with a 750gb scondary and a 500gb backup external... but no, no AI's unfortunately

Lex is leaving at the end of this season, and will appear in the last season (8) as a guest star. So maybe we will see the not so bad Lex now and the Evil Lex at the end of the season...:D

smoke alot?
His decisions have been dumb, but at least he has shown some personality (something Lex has been running out of recently). Rosenbaum's contract runs out at the end of this season, but next season is wide open at the moment (assuming that Smallville is renewed). Lana of course we know won't, Clark has to end up with Lois sooner or later. Anything between the two of them is temporary.
2 characters i really want to see before the end of season 8...
Hal Jordan
Zatanna
Hal, because i think doing a Green Lantern / Green Arrow spinoff show would be absolutely amazing...
Zatanna... eyecandy lol, just joking, i think it would be good to reinforce the fact that Clark is vulnerable to magic and the supernatural, as this has only been touched on once in the series so far.
M
I've said before that I thought Zee should be in it. I agree with you on Hal, I've been wanting him in it since talk of Batman started back in season 2.
Yeah, I know Batman won't be, he was just talked about alot back then. There were some who thought Adam Knight was him (the name Knight, the number 27 on his clothes...)
