Lately, I've been hearing(more like reading) someone say that. He/She said that Superman destroyed a universe when his "limiters" were removed. Is this true?
I don't have any way of asking him/her, that is why I'm asking this here. If he did destroy a universe, which version of him was it?

He's using his super speed to break through the barriers of time and space to travel to other times and dimension. He's not destroying anything. It's like breaking the sound barrier doesn't mean you're destroying sound.

i wish we could go back to a time where superman would do anything to protect kara.

No, not by a long shot, a solar system is not even remotely comparable to a galaxy, let alone the universe. Besides that was SA supes, he was ridiculous and was retconned because of it.
Also regular superman never busted more than a planet I think, was it a planet? or a moon?
But if you're looking for a Superman that destroyed not one but several universes then look at Superboy-Prime after he absorved the energies of one of the Guardians of the Universe, that sacrificed his life to try to destroy Superboy-Prime but only managed to send him to another universe and some of his energies were absorved by Superboy and he became a full adult. With all his powers increased beyond the already ridiculous levels he had from the start, and also he had the power to travel through universes. And every universe he traveled to that wasn't the one he came from, he destroyed. Because he had become totally insane.
