If rebirth had red boots instead of blue it would've been perfect.

Reborn is the best, it is simple and a callback to the original suit.

The Jeans and T shirt is okay for a origin costume, but isn't something that should be permanent.

The New52 suit was too complicated with all the lines and the collar didn't really fit with Superman.

The JRJR suit is just a slightly modified new52 suit.

Truth suit is just a rehash of the jeans and T shirt costume.

The Rebirth suit looked weird when drawn by most artists. Since the boots were blue and there wasn't a full belt, it looked like Superman was wearing footie pajamas like a toddler.

I'm partial to the New 52 version.

Thought there was a lot of potential there to be explored.

Reborn. Back to having yellow in that area and the red boots make a huge, positive difference to the Rebirth one.

The armor suit (ignoring it's shitty execution for a moment--the ugly lines, the collar, the 90s Jim Lee-ness of it all) really diminishes the character. It implies he's not as physically tough as he should be, like he needs help with his invulnerability. Superman wearing a thin, cloth(-like) costume totally reinforces his toughness.

You know thinking about it DC was actually kind of clever when designing Superdad's Rebirth suit, Since I'm pretty sure they were setting up this merger thing since they killed Nuperman so they intentionally made Superdad's suit more blue since he was the blue half of Superman to signify he wasn't complete.

Reborn. The costume in the second picture would be better, if not the collar and armor.

The New 52 suit is my personal favorite.

I don't know what people are smoking that they thought lines and a collar brought it down all that much, and I have no idea how many times it has to be said that Superman was wearing the armor because it was Kryptonian. He didn't need it to defend himself. It's the same reason he wears an otherwise pointless cape. It's a symbol of his home planet and family.

@scouterv: I need to know what you're smoking that you think pointless lines and a Mandarin high collar was a good look for Superman.

The collar, in my opinion, lent itself well to the idea of the House of El as one of nobility and status befitting their lineage. And there were lines. Big deal? That's the definition of a nitpick.

If nobility is stuffy and uncomfortable looking neck collars then yep that is nobility in a nutshell. Sorry but that never sat right with me. And the lines being a nitpick? Please they clutter and overcomplicate what is supposed to be a simple and efficient costume design. The lines on costumes in the New 52 were all pointless.

Superman's costume was never, to my knowledge, supposed to be "simple and efficient". It was what it was, and I never found the New 52 design to be pointless in design. In fact, it was my favorite costume to date (with Reborn as a second). I thought it looked alien (what I liked), looked regal (what I liked) and served a purpose (wasn't just armor, it was a ceremonial piece of his heritage). I do think some artists didn't draw the suit well, and that was something I could live with, but when someone like Jim Lee drew it, it looked perfect imo.

@reactor: Yes it was, it was inspired by a strongman circus suit and once refined into the classic costume has basically served as a template for almost every pop culture interpretation of the superhero costume. Believe me I like Jim Lee as an artist but when it comes to costume design, he has an obsession with 90s comics and unnecessary costume designs. I understand the New 52 armour had its fans but I could never get behind it. It looking alien wasn't the problem, it was how authoritarian and militaristic it made Superman appear. The regal look of the armour doesn't compare to the majesty of the other Superman suit IMO. And the classic suit served a purpose too, it was made from the blankets of Krypton and it was made by Ma Kent. The costume was a combination of his home and his heritage. I won't deny there weren't some good drawings of that costume but it never clicked like the Rebirth or Reborn costumes do.

@supermeatboy: It looks like the new 52 without the armor look, and a bit darker. Still very nice though. The one in the OP looks like pajamas.

Its the belt going up and down the suit. The same motif the belt was with the trunks.
