    First Superman title doesn't dissapoint

I admit it, this is my first Superman comic, and how do I enjoy it.

First, while I was never a Wildstorm guy, I happen to think Helspont works quite well as a superman villain, due to the simple fact that he is strong enough to actually fight him. As the strongest hero, Superman needs the strongest villains in comparison or at least the kind who can counter his strength otherwise. Lex works well, so does Doomsday, but here we have someone with Lex's minions and planning with the power level of Doomsday.

That, and Helspont sounds evil. Toyman doesn't, Helspont does. (that, and the fact he is voiced by a Megatron voice actor in the suckish 90's Wildcat's show makes him even cooler. I watched an episode after seeing the comic to try and picture his voice...it works)

Second, it connects Superman with the other superpowered aliens on earth; Martian Manhunter, Starfire....and Hawkman. The New 52 really does work to be connected, doesn't it.

And Finally, what Kryptonian did Helspont fight and kill before? Last I checked, their race was pretty much a stay on homeworld race. And how does he know Jor-El?

Now....if only I could find the Green Lantern Annual. Second printing is in October......!!!!!!!!!>!>!>!>!>!>!>>!>!>>!

Superman annual marks the beginning of Scott Lobdell’s run on the man of steel. To my surprise the solicitations completely lied to me since it has nothing to do with our hero been captured by aliens and force him to play in a game of death where he would meet a new green lantern (probably Baz). But instead we got something we needed to see for this title, an actual direction that will most likely lead to big events in the DCU and probably my long awaited appearance of wildstorm’s first team fin...

Superman Annual #1 officially kicks off the Scott Lobdell era of Superman comics, and it doesn’t start small. Lobdell provided the plot for this one while his long-time partner in crime, Fabian Nicieza, took scripting duties. To begin with, I enjoyed the fact that this issue was an action-packed, sci-fi romp. It was fun to see Superman battle against Helspont and his Daemonite legions, and struggle in the process. Lobdell also fleshed out the backstory for this New 52 version of Helspont. He gav...
