    1. The Lost Secrets of Krypton: (Superman vs Lex Luthor, with Lois Lane; retells Superman's origin story with Jor-El, Lara, Martha, and Jonathan Kent / written by Edmond Hamilton) Lex uses a magnet ray to pull what he thinks is a chunk of kryptonite to earth, destroying the machine, which he can't rebuild because he doesn't have enough of the required rare materials, in the process. rather than a chunk of kryptonite, what he snagged turns out to be a vault of Kryptonian tech made by Superman's father Jor-El. Lois is sent to investigate the meteor strike but worrying there might be kryptonite Clark gets there first as Superman. When Lois arrives she distracts him just long enough for Luthor to hit them both with a calcification ray and escape with the rest of the devices including one labeled "Beware the dread power of this machine! Turn it on only if you desire power over all men. After escaping the ray, Superman sees an inscription on the wall telling him these machines were made by his father and we get another retelling of his origin before continuing with the story of Luthor trying to take over the world. Superman eventually catches up to Lex, who uses the dread machine only to find it is actually a failsafe against such people gaining control of the Kryptonian tech. Superman then returns the machines to the vault and tosses it back into space.
    2. Shorty: (humor strip by Henry Boltinoff)
    3. Superman's Masters: (Superman / written by Alvin Schwartz) Superman smashes a meteor in space and it shoots out strange rays. One such ray hits a plane flying over the Atlantic giving 3 people strength on par with Superman.
    4. Peg: (humor strip by Henry Boltinoff)
    5. Super Ships: (full-text article by David King)
    6. Little Pete: (humor strip by Henry Boltinoff)
    7. The Secret of Superman's Home: (Superman vs Hatchet Kaims / written by Edmond Hamilton)
    8. Varsity Vic: (humor strip by Henry Boltinoff)
    9. Superboy Says "Share With Others": (PSA)

Lex Luthor: Ha-ha, Superman! I'm using the very same ray invented by your own father, Jor-El, to turn you and Miss Lane into stone!

Post-War Superman Takes on Luthor 0

To change things up a bit, I decided to review an older issue of Superman since I’ve been so wound up in reviewing the new 52 lately. This is the oldest issue of Superman I’ve ever held in my hands with the publication date of Jan./Feb. 1952. It’s definitely one of those awkward post-war Superman issues where he’s put the struggles of WWII behind him but he hasn’t reached the fantastic mythology that the Silver Age would give him. The stories in the early 50’s dealt with more domestic issues and...
