    A Disappointing Anniversary 1

There is a distinct lack of substance to the fanfare here (which is also lacking).  The whole anniversary issue feels slapdash on DC's part, especially after the excellent roller coaster ride War of the Supermen provided and in anticipation of JMS' upcomign Grounded storyline.  The first story, The Comback, feels like at best an afterthought and at worse an extended version of the final scene of War of the Supermen 4 (the last time we saw Superman).  After an ultimately meaningless, by-the-numbe...

    Monumental Filler 0

Superman's 700th issue is a stock filler issue. It features three stories, and none of these are bad. They're solid enough stories, but they are also completely forgettable and really lacking in anything new or interesting.  The first story is a War of the Supermen epilogue from James Robinson and is basically a sappy story between Lois and Clark about how much they missed each other. The chemistry between them isn't very strong here, nor is this one of Lois Lane's stronger portrayals in general...

    don't rush 0

THE GOOD  This issue has three stories none are bad the best one has to be the one by J.M.S unless you like silver aged stories if you did your favorite would be the one by Dan Jurgens the art looked great throughout the issue even tough it had three diffrent artist.  THE BAD  None of the stories felt like they were connected and none were that great with the exceptions of the story J.M.S wrote the issue felt off because it went from the present to the past and then the future it might have been...

3X the wrong or write way? 1

This is an 3XL sized issue.  3 creative teams, 3 stories and 3 points in Superman's life.  The Preview is HERE for reference. The first story wraps up the James Robinson era.  This story was really a filler to be honest.  But the art was really nice.  The 2nd story was my favorite.  The Dan Jurgens Golden age story.  This story features the dynamic duo of Bruce Wayne Batman and a young Dick Grayson Robin.  This story is great because it really shows the connection Superman has to both Dick and...

Not The Most Memorable of Anniversaries 0

I'll say upfront that I didn't care for the story from the past and present in "Superman" #700. I'm not a fan of "untold stories" that don't have a lot of relevance nor am I a fan of wrapping up disappointing storylines. The art in each was fine, but I just didn't really care for either story. To be nonchalant about two-thirds of the 700th anniversary issue of the most iconic superhero is more than disappointing. That's not to say that Dan Jurgens didn't turn in a good story because he did. Howe...

    A Hater Repents 0

For a while, I've been a Superman hater. I couldn't stand him and stayed away from all things Superman. Like any sadist, it made me feel good to rag on the man of steel and dismiss him as a dull dull symbol of unattainable perfection. I thought he was too squeaky clean and devoid of the turmoil that attracted me to other characters. I picked this up because I decided to give him another chance. After all, I always liked him as a small child. The cover was inviting in a quaint sort of way and I h...

    Decent Anniversary Issue! 0

Comment:The book was disappointing in some ways, satisfying in others.   If you have to pick up this anniversary issue, get it from your dollar bin!   After shelling out the $4.99 for this issue, loving the cover with Lois & Clark and a happy, romping Krypto in the background, looks like your typical DC friendly cover. The ComebackJames Robinson & Bernard Chang wrote the script for the first story, The Comeback, with Parasite chasing after in some kind of warehouse.   As he ca...

    Another comic err...milestone. 0

No matter what, 700 issues is an outstanding achievement.  Lately, Superman comics hasn't really interested me in quite some time, unlike titles like Action comics, Supergirl and Power Girl, because like everything else, times are changing. With issue 700, and the next arc thats coming up after War of the Supermen, I thought this would be an interesting time to get back into Superman.  Pros:    The artwork for all 3 stories is great. In "The Comeback", I like the interactions with Clark and Lois...

The worlds greatest super hero comes home 0

Well finally some time to do a review.  Of course I'm going to start with my favorite hero.  Yeah, I know all the complaints and reasons not to like Superman.  My best friend growing up was a Spiderman fan and would remind me every chance he could why Superman sucked (which he doesn't).  I was never swayed and my love for Supes and his family of books has very rewarding for me.  He we are with the 700th issue of this storied character!  This book is a capstone to the Robinson run with a welcome ...

Man of Steel With a Heart of Gold 1

Ah, Superman, one of America’s most Iconic Superheroes. I’ve heard horror stories about this guy, but what can I say. There’s just something about Superman that you can’t help but love. In this giant sized anniversary issue you get three stories, all with their own unique meaning. What I liked: Superman #700 is separated into three separate stories. My favorite over all is the second which is called Geometry. It lets you see just what an upstanding guy Superman really is. The Art in this issue...
