In a horrific future where heroes and villains are fighting to the death for what's left of the world, Superman finally returns! But can even he save the planet?
In a battle many of the resistance are defeated, Parasite is among the dead. Superman has returned after years of being buried beneath Earth's surface deformed. He battles Khyber who almost wins, except at the last second he is destroyed. In the aftermath, victory was supposed to mean peace, but that did not come. Lex Luthor eventually dies and the Green Lantern leaves earth, Wonder Woman has vanished without a trace. Soon the humans die out, Lois is one of the last and Jimmy takes over her journal and he hasn't seen a human in years.
