Luthor Beats Superman... Destroys Earth in Process

What a cool concept.

Earth lies in ruins - every man, woman, and child gone. Deep in his lair, Lex Luthor leaves a farewell recording as he prepares to leave this dead world behind for good. A he himself destroyed in his final battle with long time foe Superman.

The thing is, Lex pulls out another one of those annoying pseudoscience ways of defeating the Man of Steel at the beginning... well that might have been forgivable - if Superman himself hadn't pulled a total groan-inducing deus ex-machina victory at the end.

And... by the way...

It seems that this was sort of the norm for Superman in the bronze age - the writers had some really good ideas, but had to resort to some really contrived ways to get from point A to point B. If only they'd come up with a more believable way of doing it, I would have ranked this among the best Superman stories ever - instead of dead average.

Still, it's nice to see that yet again, Lex Luthor is portrayed as a very human character, and the Man of Steel an impartial hero.
