    Confession

    Preface:

Superman For Tomorrow was a story i was intensely looking forward to. I was just starting out reading Comics and Jim Lee quickly became a favorite of mine. So for no other reason than that i thought this book was worth the money. But does the story hold up? Lets find out

    Review:

Superman 204 starts out with a priest talking to who i believe to be an ex-girlfriend. They playfully and thoughtfully poke and prod at one another and reminisce of the past. It seems in this exchange that the priest is the one doing the confessing. Confessing his fears and his inadequacies. They talk about the fact that we are all connected to one another and this is one of my favorite parts as i believe this to be true. We are all brothers and sisters imo. There is then a moment wherein the priest calls her "baby" and makes a remark about how he wishes he hadn't taken the vows. As a christian you may think this would dishearten me but rather it ministers to me that this is a man that is charged by duty, much like Moses or Abram in the bible he does what he does for the glory of God. that is a trait i found very admirable. shortly thereafter Superman shows up and we get one of the more interesting dialogues i have read in a long while. They talk about trust and secrets and then Superman is the one confessing. What on earth could superman haveto confess? he's the hero among heroes. They talk about an event called the vanishing wherein superman was a million miles away while one million people, including Lois, disappeared without a trace. I cannot stress enough how much this issue speaks to me as a Christian. Even the best of us, like Superman, gets hit with trials and tribulations and is effected by them and has moments of weakness. This issue is aweseome. as it has deeper themes at play than "punch the bad guy" This issue is a superman who is not challenged physically but mentally, emotionally, and most of all spiritually. Issue 204 ends with superman finally confessing sin: "was to save the world". What does this mean? I guess ill have to read on to find out.

    Final thoughts:

This arc,"For Tomorrow", gets a lot of flack from fans but i believe this is overall a good story. you just have to take it in small doses. That being said this issue did have a few moments where the dialogue was a bit squirrelly. Nothing jarring but certainly annoying.

    Verdict:

    Superman issue 204 gets....a 3.....out of 5

There are certainly those comic book fans out there who regard Superman as a boring character, as his abilities make him nearly unbeatable.  What fans fail to realize though that it is the strength of a character and the writer behind it that make a story interesting and not what that character can do.  An excellent example is this issue.  Superman finds himself somewhat adrift in his frustration over the Vanishing (the disappearance of one million people, including Lois).  Instead of turning to...
