    Talking with Superman

So it has been quiet a while since this comic came out a few months ago. Superman is pretty different from Action Comics (review#1 ). For starters it is set 5 years in the future (or Action Comics is five years in the past if you prefer), and the Man of Steel has his full suit. Clark is working at the Daily Planet with Jimmy and Lois. This issue starts with the Daily Planet building being torn down...

    Good:

The art work was well done. It took some initial getting used to the new costume but I new that was coming from all the preview so it was alright. At first i was sad to see the colapse of the Daily Planet, until i saw the new building on the next page, which look looked clearly better. It reminded me of an old IKEA commercial. The introduction of the new fire villain was interesting, and was powerful enough to contend with Superman. Speaking of his powers, Jimmy makes reference to the events of Action Comics five years earlier by saying "...remember when he could only leap tall buildings?".

    Bad:

I did not care for the little play-by-pay during the the fight scene. I know it was supposed to be Clark's news paper article, but it felt unnecessary. In fact, there where a lot of dialog boxes in this issue, that didn't seem necessary. at one point their is a speach bouble that reads "...we can see the look of absolute terror on the creatures face", ironically this is covering the face of the fire monster -_- Which kinda proves my point about there being to many dialog boxes. I felt i was sorta wordy.

    Verdict:

It wasn't a bad comic, but it didn't strike me as anything particularly special. It also didn't feel like a first issue. It felt like I was missing a bit of back story, especially when it comes to Lois and Clark's relationship -she's not interested in him and they've never gone out, but Clark has feelings for her. I enjoyed Action Comics much more, and will probably just read that one, for my Superman fix.

I have to admit, I've always liked George Perez. It sounds strange lauding "the man", the industry insider, the guy who's been doing this longer than you've been alive. But his work is just so solid. And, I remember when he was the young upstart - the moment I took that New Teen Titans #1 home, I thought he was D.C.'s secret weapon - a fact D.C. realized too when they put him in charge of art duties on Crisis on Infinite Earths. From that moment on, Perez defined the look of D.C.  And here ag...

Should've Been In Week One 0

The Good: I'm actually loving the metaphor here. The old Daily Planet building is being torn down to make room for a new, more modern one. Basically the same, but with some noticeable updates. And there's a big speech about how just because the building' changing, doesn't mean people need to panic. It's going to be the same newspaper it always was. The interior art is pretty cool, I definitely enjoyed it. The subtle mystery weaved into the background is prety compelling, and sets up an interesti...
