Trouble for Agent Venom; and a great [first] start on Parker Industries.
My last review, Superior Spider-Man #21. Agent Venom makes an appearance in the Superior Spider-Man's life; but, as you should already know, things won't be going well for Agent Venom!
The Good
In this issue, Agent Venom pops into town when he hears about an old enemy, Crime Master. (But how is that possible, when the original Crime Master was killed?) Nonetheless, worried about Betty's safety, Agent Venom (a.k.a. Flash Thompson) is going to make sure that Crime Master is truly dead, and that his ex-girlfriend is out of harm's way. Meanwhile, Peter Parker starts his first day as C.E.O. of Parker Industries. Writer Dan Slott did an amazing job with this issue; one of the facts being because, we finally get to see confrontation between Spock and Agent Venom! If you've read this series for a good amount of time, or have read my reviews, you know that Spock has not, really, been following in his predecessor's footsteps. As of late, Spock has wanted to become his own man, his own superiorman. (Both as Parker and Spider-Man.) And with such great change, comes Spock's ability to ignore, or flush out, Parker's old memories. One of them being Flash Thompson.
I really enjoyed what Dan Slott did with the confrontation between Spock and Agent Venom. Apparently, before all of this, Spider-Man had no idea who was in control of the symbiote as, Agent Venom. (Because Agent Venom is a secret tool of the government.) However, even though Flash revealed himself to Spock now; it's not going to change Spock's mind to spare his life nor the symbiote. I really like seeing how Slott has turned so many of Spider-Man's greatest allies, Into enemies of Spock. (i.e. Black Cat, The Avengers, etc.) It's simple twists like this, that make reading the Superior Spider-Man series worthwhile! (Because we know that Parker[-Parker] will have to deal with the mess that Spock created when he gets back. Insert plug for my, Amazing Spider-Man #1 review.) Plus, before the battle between Agent Venom and Spock; Slott handled, Parker Industries, quite nicely. I like seeing Parker, or Spock, use 100% of his abilities. (Especially since Parker is practically a super genius.) I'm interested in seeing how this company will aid both Parker and Spider-Man in the issues to come! But overall, Dan Slott did an amazing job at setting things up!
And Dan Slott's story would've meant nothing, if it weren't for the help of artist, Humberto Ramos! Ramos did a superior job with the artwork, as usual! But I'm sure you already knew that!
The Bad
No complaints, solid issue!
The Verdict
5 out of 5. Next review, Superior Spider-Man #23.
