New Creative Team and a New Starting Point

There's a new creative team taking over the book. With Superman on his walkabout, it's up to Supergirl to watch over Metropolis.

    The Good

This is a good jumping on point for readers. Aside from the mention that Superman is out of town in his title, there much from the previous issues mentioned here. We do see other characters such as Lois Lane and Perry White mentioned along with Cadmus. This reinforces the story taking place in Metropolis. There's some great continuity ties when Perry mentions other events currently happening in DC titles. The issue exists in its own little corner but doesn't ignore the rest of the DC Universe. Supergirl is full of confidence as she faces numerous foes.

    The Bad

Where to begin? We have a new "villain" in the issue. We don't find out much about him but he almost feels like he could be Supergirl's Lex Luthor. He still has a way to go. There is too many references to social networks and apps for smart phones. Sure we all know about these things but putting current trends into comics can really date the story. In trying to be relevant with today's trends, it almost feels too forced. It's always hard getting used to a new art team but Kara almost looks older in the issue. She's supposed to appear physically as a 16 or 17 year-old. The art and hairstyle on the cover didn't really work for me either.

    The Verdict

We had a stellar creative team on the book and trying to follow in their footsteps can be hard for any new creative team. This issue serves a great jumping on point for new readers and there is a good use of tying other events in the DC Universe into the story without making things complicated. We have a new villain but he isn't too impressive at this point. He comes out of nowhere and seems to have risen way too fast. The evil scheme that is hatched here could cause big problems for heroes, not just Supergirl, in the future.

      Best Supergirl Issue Ever! 0

This shows how good Nick Spencer is, even with only one issue to play with. I only wish after reading this that he had been allowed to finish the arc, but it's pretty clear why he wasn't: Alex.  Alex is an excellent villain - basically "The Social Network" founder of Facebook, but twisted in a manipulative direction. He opens the issue with a rant on ancient Rome that quickly shows his distorted viewpoint, and why he thinks killing off superheroes is justified. He's invented an app he's released...

      Supergirl on camera! 0

Story: This issue's story was pretty basic. It has about three seperate situations going on. One with a guy from Harvard University making a social app called Flyover where you can take pictures or videos of any superhero or villain you see and send it to the main website to get points and fans. The next story involves Lois Lane and a woman who's child is very sick. Lois is interviewing her about it and she finds out that the illness is due to kryptonite experimenting from Cadmus. The last story...
