I still haven't read Infinite Crisis and all I see are comments of pure hate against this character.
Is it just because he's op(that wouldn't bother me, personally) or is there some other reason?
Character » Superboy Prime appears in 156 issues.

In my opinion, he's a highly un-original character. He is literally an insane version of Superman from some different time zone.
That's about as creative as making a villain named Newspaper-man.

He's a whiny little punk who's completely overpowered. And he's just plain unoriginal. And he's written horribly. He has no real personality.QFT.
Superman-Prime? He's one of my three favorite characters in DC Comics. The other two are Supergirl and Larfleeze.

this.
I liked him during his first appearance way back in DC Comics Presents. It was fun to watch Superman mentor a younger version of himself and it acted as a farewell to the concept of Superboy with the coming of Crisis on Infinite Earths and Man of Steel. I also liked the fact that he was the surprise villain of Infinite Crisis. The battle between him, Kal-L, and Superman was just fantastic. His appearances in Countdown were awful, though, and his rants are really just whining. So he's gotten to be a bit overexposed these days.
I'll always have a soft spot for him. He's from my home state of New Hampshire, after all.
Because he's not Superman... He's Edward Cullen posing as Superman! Ok maybe that's going too far.... But he's an emo. And you know the general consensus about Emos? Yeah that's the reason he's hated.

Superman-Prime reminds me of Vulcan. vice versa. They're both cool
He is a murdering crybaby who blames everything on everybody else because he refuses to take responsibility for his actions. Oh and he is written to be hated so you'll like Kon-El.

Pretty much this. I loved him when I hadn't actually read most of his appearances. Then I did. He's basically portrayed as a whiny, a**hole version of Superman. So I'm pretty sure they meant for him to be not liked. Least I hope that was the intention, because the alternative is they were trying to make a character we can sympathize with and failed horribly at it.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that Superboy Prime is basically written as the worst of comic book fanboys which is probably why most fans hate him. He's constantly whining about how his world is superior to the world of the DC heroes. Since he's from Earth-Prime which is basically our world, I take this to represent how many fans whine about needing to see a comic book world be more "realistic." He kills a number of minor characters during his fit in Infinite Crisis which represents how many fans read comic book deaths with glee (especially those of minor characters they dislike). Finally, he ends up back in his world but spends all his time reading comic books in his basement, arguing on message boards, and acting like a selfish dick to his loved ones. Basically, fans hate Superboy Prime because he's the ugly reflection of their own worst traits staring them right in the face (and I'll include myself in that assessment despite the fact that I now really like the character because of everything I just pointed out).
One word: Anoying....As.....@!#$ (insert whatever 4 letter profanity you want)
He is my FAVORITE VILLAIN OF THE DCU. I'm dead serious, as a big Superman fan, I've always loved that he was the exception to the rule "Power Corrupts" and that here is the most powerful man on earth and yet he is constantly using his powers for good, often times resulting in Clark Kent getting the shaft. Now what would happen if all the power (plus more actually) was misguided, and able to be manipulated by a Luthor. We really begin to see the difference that growing up with Ma and Pa made for Kal-El. Prime loses everything and just cuts loose, its awesome. Its fun to see a Superman with no holds barred just cut loose and take what he wants, it reinforces how awesome Superman is for being uncorruptible. Check out Final Crisis Legion of 3 Worlds, that is an awesome story that he is at the focal point of. And if you read Countdown and didn't enjoy Superman Prime flying a Lex Luthor thru the sun or burning the S-shield into Mxyzptk's face then you need to lighten up haha. He is a badass, he mopped the floor with Ion (sodam yat) and is much more badass than Ultraman. I hope he returns in the New 52 DCU.
Cause he whines like a bitch, "ooo the world didn't turn out exactly like I wanted it too so I'm gonna kill everyone" F**king emo moron
But he has the power to back it up, he killed a ton of Green Lanterns and other heroes between Infinite Crisis and Sinestro Corps. I challenge someone to find 5 villains (that are not a huge planet gobblers) that have killed more heroes than Prime.
I'm pretty sure elements of Superboy-Prime were intended to represent comic book fanboys who continually whined and cried that "old stories" were better and anything new.
Not only do I of hate that kind of self-aware gouging at the audience that sometimes happens in media like this, but trying to turn that concept into a villain who is a realistic threat is just a poor idea. Stupid stupid stupid.

Interesting. I never really thought of it like that.
Because there are too many people on Comicvine who don't understand this characters pain and struggling. There will never be a character as convincing and well written as Superboy Prime.
Because he's a whiney douche. "Waa my world is better, Waa people don't like me, Waa the world isn't filled with silver age BS stories any more. Waa, Waa, Waa

I don't understand the pain and struggle of most people, but that doesn't mean they're not clinically useless to me.
damn i love prime he is my second fav villain after the joker, yes i do admit he is annoying at times but that is simply piss poor writing especially what happened to him in the pre flashpoint with the titans. Still i loved the guy he wrecked the green lantern corp and made 2 supermen his bitch 3 if you count superboy so i blame the writing for why fans hate him.
There was a guy that said how he was a reflection of fanboys for his logic which is true but, at the same time op characters tend to be hated excluding superman. Also whenever a character slaughters lots of people they tend to pick up some hate if they don't kill villains. The point is he is really whiny which is really hard to get by and has all the power needed to change things. In essence he feigns victim but plays villain a lot.
Because he makes the fans reflect upon themselves, and once they realize their own true nature, they cannot help but hate everything that shares that nature
