  1. Superboy's Big Brother! (part 2 is titled "The Secret of Mon-El!" / written by Robert Bernstein : reprinted in: Superboy #129, Adventure Comics #494, The Legion of Super-Heroes Archives #1)

Mon-el travels to Earth in a rocket and Superboy mistakingly believes that Mon-el is his older brother from Krypton. After a while, Superboy suspects that Mon-el is a fake and paints large balls of lead green to simulate kryptonite. Unfortunately, the lead is extremely toxic to Mon-el and he finally explains that he is a Daxamite and actually visited Krypton before it exploded. Superboy and Mon-el decide to leave Mon-el in the Phantom Zone until he can receive a cure for his lead poisoning.

In the history of the Legion of Super Heroes, this one stands a little bit separate. Each of the previous first appearances of Legion characters has involved some time travel from the 30th century. Contrary to that in this issue, Mon-El is first introduced, and the Legion is never once mentioned. Instead the story unfolds much like most golden or silver age tales, with a lot of random plot developments (a killer jack-in-the-box?) and the story is lost in the almost ridiculous story.
